Nice Location / Bad manager

What could be a nice living experience is made not so nice by the manager s uncooperative nature.

When you first move in you discover how poorly the building was planned.

There is no decent place to park a moving truck, nor is there a dedicated elevator to use for moving.

If you have anything but the smallest truck you will need to park at least partially on the street.

Madison Street is a very busy street and blocking it even partially causes huge problems.

The building has only one elevator so it can not be blocked off for moving use.

The elevator will fight you every step of the way.

The buzzer comes on quite quickly and the door shuts and will not reopen.

You can have maybe 45 seconds or so before it starts to buzz and the doors shut.

This makes the moving nightmare that much worse.

The manager will not do anything to help, with the elevator situation, such as temporarily ---- off the buzzer.

The one and only thing the building will do is hang up big blue pads in the elevator for moving, then not take them down for weeks and months on end.

In the past some residents did take them down but management has changed the fastener system so they are up there for good.

When someone is paying close to $2,000.00 a month rent they shouldn t be subjected to this kind of treatment.

When a move is happening sure pad the elevator just like any other good building, but take the pads down at some point.

The building manager has packages delivered to her office, and then she is supposed to place a note on your mailbox telling you of said package.

In reality your package may sit in her office over a month before placing a note on your mailbox telling you about the package.

If you don t know you have a package coming it may sit weeks before you find out about it.

A couple months ago a friend sent me an Easter ham from a mail order place.

I didn t know it was coming; as such it sat in the office and rotted.

There is a sign in the lobby telling UPS, and the like to deliver packages to the office and not leave them in the lobby yet the manger doesn t take care of the delivery notifications.

There are two group homes in the same block as 1700 Madison, and they cause a great deal of problems, this is just an FYI, nothing the manager can do about it but with the two group homes and a public housing project, as well as the Trader Joes in the building it is quite noisy at night.

Residents of the group homes make a great deal of noise, and there are fire/medical emergencies at least once or twice a week that bring lots of sirens in the middle of the night.

Trader Joes gets their deliveries at night and they are constantly opening and closing a large rolling garage door to let the trucks in and out.

The trucks will sit outside honking with stereos blaring until they are let in.

Again you know the store is in the building when you look at the place but you have no idea how noisy it is.

The construction of the building is poor, you can hear what your next door neighbor is doing, and you know every step your upstairs neighbors are making.

Wood frame construction with seemingly nonexistent insulation makes this place noisy.

Again, not the kind of quality you would expect at this kind of rent.

When your lease is up, it seems to be the practice of the manager to offer strange lease terms, in my case she would not offer a 6 month lease, only a 13 to 17 month lease.

Strange lease terms in my opinion.

All of the fellow residents I have talked to who are past the original lease term are paying a month to month fee of $100.00 because the manager refuses to allow six month renewal leases.

I certainly have not found this review to be accurate. I've lived in the apartments for 6 months. Any packages that I have received have always been either delivered to my door or a notice promptly left. The manager has always gone out of her way to make this a pleasant place to live. There are places to park when moving. Yes, it's not super convenient but you're moving into an apartment downtown. That's just the way it goes. If I were you, I would ignore this review from an apparently bitter person.
