This building is an old nursing home, being converted to apartments (still under construction, but they're renting anyway). It was bought by a bottom-feeding real estate company that kicked out the old people and started fixing up the apartments. Then the Seattle real estate market collapsed. Now it's mostly empty, and they're trying to unload the apartments. They offer various "move in specials" such as a free month's rent, but don't be suckered! They cut corners in weird ways like not installing phone lines (there are jacks in the walls but no wires!), and painting / plastering over rotten spots in the walls. My cheaply renovated apartment is already falling apart. The plumbing doesn't work reliably--hours with no hot water, horrible smells coming through the pipes. Believe me this is a bargain you don't want. Every few weeks we get a new building manager and a new "maintenance" crew. I get the impression that they're all looking for new jobs, since the company that bought the building is clearly on the skids. The place has a bad feeling. Five families moved out last week because there are no phones and no hope of phones. In some apartments there's only cellular service. It's crazy!
