Good turned very bad

From: -Anonymous-

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2008

I've lived in this complex from 2004 - almost 4 years now - and I've seen this place turn from "good" (when it was still called "Wall Street Tower") to bad (when they were selling the place) to horrible (with the new Archstone management).

In 2004, the place was a steal - I was paying $939 for a 1 bedroom with a great view. Management was helpful; building was well-kept: flowers at the entrance, caring concierge... Then the problems started appearing.

Parking
Republic Parking, the organization that manages the garage at this community, is a collection of money-grabbing, careless, horribly managed bunch. They will fine you $35 if you park "on the line" between two spots, even though many spots cannot physically fit a regular-sized 4-door vehicle. They will give you tickets for not paying on the first of the month even if the first is a holiday. They will pretend to void the tickets after you call them and ----- for an hour, and then you'll see notices of those same canceled tickets in the mail. And when the 20-year-old garage door jams, and noone can get in or out, they take 2-3 hours to arrive at the location. Archstone managers know about this, and have done nothing, no matter how many times me and other residents have complained.

Services
In late 2007, the building lobby started smelling like garbage; no matter how many times we complained, we got the "oh yes, we'll fix it" and polite nods from the "helpful" managers, but no real improvements.

Noise
The walls are very thin, and depending on what kind of neighbors you have, this will or will not bother you. Literally, I could hear every whisper from the other apartment from my bathroom.

Maintenance
The maintenance staff is very helpful. We had a few things that needed to be fixed, and they were fast, and did the job well.

Conclusion
It's February 2008, the rent for a 1-bedroom climed up to 1200, which makes the place an only ok-deal in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, combined with the bad management and a bad state of the building, it's enough for me to move out.

I would not recommend this place - instead, check out other high-rises on Wall St, Vine, or Cedar.
