but the new managers have made the environment pretty base, and the way they handle problems or any kind of issues makes an intelligent reasonable person cringe.

the former manager, while no angel, assured that everyone felt a part of the community as a whole. i would liken this to being a part of a large extended family where you didn't necessarily like everyone in the clan, but people watched out for each other and their needs were considered and addressed in a friendly manner (unless you were the crackhead on the 5th floor who was an occasional threat to everyone else's safety).

not so now. i cannot even count on receiving a package addressed to me unless i happen to be present when the mailperson delivers it, as the managers don't have a set way of alerting tenants to when they have received a package. one time it was a sticky note on my door. another time a package was lying at my doorstep even though i was told five minutes prior that would never happen, and then they had no idea how it got there. one time i was advised i had received a note that i had a package but there was no evidence of any, and so the xmas cookies from my sister were a week old by the time i received them from the office. and another time i had to go get my package back from the post office because the managers didn't receive it at all. worse, what they say they will do they don't do.

case in point: upon arriving, they are introduced to the tenants by the former manager, and in an effort to be well-received state that they would be keeping things pretty much the same as he did. in the following months, suddenly no more pets were allowed (though they moved in with a dog themselves); all storage items in the basement were to be removed or be thrown out immediately without alternative storage units being available; all furniture/items in the hallways were ordered to be removed 'for fire hazard purposes,' yet the managers placed their own furniture in their hallway (which looks much worse than the bike that had been parked in the same spot); the workout room was inexplicably converted to a bike storage area (without any secure way to leave the bikes, e.g. bolting the bike rack to the floor); multiple tenants who had been sharing an apartment were forced to leave (bye immigrants); a fire alarm was grounds for complete chaos and shouting instead of calm leadership; holes were cut into a door in the small lobby for venting of the heating system (not necessary before, though the system had been explained to them) with cheap vent covers partially slapped over the hack job, creating an eyesore in the most visible place; damaged mirrors in the elevator were never replaced, another eyesore; vending machine failures 'are not the responsibility of the managers--call the vending company'--huh'' and on it goes like this.

sadly, i had loved living here until the past six months. all the noise and chaos of living downtown, the difficult parking situation, lack of space and all were compensated by the fact that i was warmly welcomed and had a friend who united us all from a motley crew and gave a damn about each individual and his unique situation that sometimes, maybe often, required a little tweaking on his part, a little ingenuity or bending of the rules, meaning there were not many strict absolutes. that mentality has died, and if one dares to call the property managers, abie label, with any issue whatsoever, one will receive a rude awakening, be challenged with a crude and defensive attitude instead of intelligent discussion and be told flat out, well, if you don't like it, you can just move out. thanks, sally. when did you become such a flagrant -----'' aren't you paid to keep tenants, not drive them away' apparently abie label doesn't need to care or give any standard of customer service because people want to live in the market and tenants can be replaced easily and charged higher rents.

move here at your own risk. it's a fantastic neighborhood and you're in the middle of everything 24-7, if you can sleep through the noise, but don't expect anything lovely from this place anymore.

wow! this review really surprises me. I also live at the atwood apt. and the managers have always been right on the ball for getting work order taken care of. They cleaned up the place got rid of the trouble makers and have always been considerate of me. anyone I have talked to about them. are happy with them. I know who this person complaining is I have heard her talk. She was very upset when the old manager left and didn't say goodbye to her. they had been lovers for some time. Even though the manager was married. A woman scorned!

unbelievable. many many people left because, in the words of one that explained the feeling of the others, "this place is going down." the person who made the comment above obviously doesn't know me at all or what happened with the previous manager, who was my friend and of course i knew he was moving; i watched him pack and drive away. his wife was very ill mentally and physically and accused me of having an affair because she was insanely jealous of our friendship (hello, he was my dad's age--no interest there! get a life!) and the fun we had that she was invited to join but rarely would. it's sad that someone would spread rumors about something of which they have no knowledge. to read such dirt and lies makes me glad i am leaving. also any new tenants will be paying hundreds of dollars more than what the rents are currently. i feel sorry for any newcomers.

You, Anonymous, are a vacuous, two-faced bimbo. And Mac was a lecherous, lying, tweaky bird-loving slimeball. The only reason it seemed like an extended family is because Mac treated the place as his little fiefdom and played favorites with anyone who had breasts. He was slack and mean-spirited when it came to getting things fixed and he gossiped about tenants behind their backs. He was an unprofessional jerk who acted like he was being put out when simply asked to do his job. If anyone was "ill mentally" it was him, and anyone who couldn't see through his BS was delusional. I was gald to see him go, and I too am gald to be out of that tenement, if for no other reason than the fact that I no longer have to deal with petty morons like you.

I'll have to agree with the last comment here. I've been in this bulding for five years and to be honest....I like the new management much more than the old. Mac used to show up and threaten to force us to get rid of our cat if he thought there was a single turd in the cat box. We were reluctant to ask him to fix things for us because he made us feel like he was judging us. The new managers have never made us feel that way, hell they're much more efficiant than Mac was. Mac never seemed to take us seriusly when we complained about Luke screaming at the "commie------maritans"(turn off your machine...you'll never make ME move) all hours of the night. The newcomers took care of things when a neighbor kept me up all night(before a morning shift), with a loud drunken party. When someone decided to smash the mirrios in the elevator and leave immature notes on the message board, they took said things away and recently had a nice new interior added. As to the storage space, basement, etc. When they took over the building owner did a walk through. Imagine being a building owner and discovering a silk screening business, three artists studios, a band practice room, and a hodge-podge of paint jobs dominating the basement in your building. No one was paying the building squat for those spaces. The people that owned the silk screening operation and the craft area taking up 2/3 of the basement didn't even live in the building anymore. Can you really blame them for getting rid of the freeloaders?
