nice apartment, but....

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008
I viewed one of the apartments owned by Breier-Scheetz, The New McDermott, 1514 Bellevue Ave in Seattle's Capitol Hill.
While I liked the apartment and planned to move in, I was told to just put down a deposit and they would take care of the rest, and when they had a move-in date for me, they would draw up the paperwork. I FULLY ADMIT that it was stupid of me not to sign something at this time.
HOWEVER. Weeks went by and I had to call repeatedly to find a move-in date... and because the current tenant was on vacation, they had no idea. Finally, two weeks before I was to move out of my current apartment, I was told, "The tenant isn't leaving until the 29th, so you can hopefully move in by the 1st." They had previously told me I'd probably have it as early as the 20th, leaving me time to move. Later that day, they called back and told me, "We're sending you back your deposit, because the tenant doesn't seem to be leaving and although he can legally stay till the 31st, we probably have to evict him which could take months, so we won't let you live here." I never got a real apology or anything, although I DID recieve my deposit in the mail.
They seemed like nice people, the apartment was very clean, but that whole thing just soured me on it altogether. My advice is IF you plan to rent from these people (managers are Dennis and Yvonne) SIGN SOMETHING before making any plans to move in.
