Yo!

A bargain, with some great extras.

Yes, you have three radio towers and an empty lot across the street. Sure, you have a half-way house next door (theyre all very nice folks). But the Cascadia is a fantastic deal.

Studios are affordable and super charming: hardwood floors, original details like 1920s era sinks, and nice windows. Both the north and south sides of the buildings face courtyards -- the south courtyard is particularly nice, with bamboo and flowering trees. Very private and quiet. The most prime units are the -06s: they have windows on three walls, and overlook the south courtyard.

Location is fantastic: Madison Market is in your backyard, and youre a couple blocks from dozens of fantastic restaurants and bars. Youre right on the edge of Capital Hill, Madison Valley, and the Central District, so you get the nightlife of the Capital Hill and the pricing and parking of the CD. Ive never felt unsafe in the area, although it definitely rides the edge of the gentrified neighborhood.

There is a six-car "first come, first served" parking lot to the north of the building, but Ive never had any trouble finding parking on the street. One neighbors car was broken into, but she had left her portable MP3/CD walkman sitting out on the passenger seat. Its not an unsafe neighborhood for cars, but you will have to use the usual urban precautions.

Neighbors are respectful of noise levels, although the building is only a couple blocks away from both a police department and a fire station, so you will hear sirens. Youll also hear the traffic from the intersection at Madison and 17th -- especially if youre in the front of the building.

Big bonuses with the Cascadia: your rent includes a secured storage unit in the basement and rooftop access. The HUGE rooftop patio affords a great view of downtown, the Cascades, Olympics, and Mount Rainer. There are plants and patio furniture up there. Very nice.

This building used to have a nightmare landlord -- but the new landlords are fantastic. Theyre quick, nice, and sweet. They do enforce rules, but theyre very nice folks. Oh and another treat' Move-in is just first month deposit. I moved in for $1k!
