It's true that the apartments are freakishly hot during the summer and that there seems to be something seriously wrong with the water metering. However, our main reason for moving was the owner/manager.
Our experiences at the Centre Court were similar to those of the other reviewers and with virtually every other tenant we knew while living there. We lived there for 3 years and can, without hesitation, say that it is the most poorly-managed property we have ever experienced.
1. It takes forever to get them to respond to routine maintenance requests. At first we thought it was just us. But we found out from numerous other tenants that their experiences were the same. They make repeated promises to perform maintenance tasks, don't show up and don't make a courtesy no-show call. If you dare to inquire about what's going on, you'll be accused of harassing them and "upsetting the hired help."
For example, there was a stain on our living room ceiling. Over a period of 6 weeks, one of us took time off of work for 7 different appointments with "maintenance" to paint the ceiling. They never showed up. They never called. Not once. When someone finally showed up (for the 8th appointment -- almost 2 hours late), he was verbally abusive and yelled at us for forcing him to leave another job.
2. We have evidence that the owner/manager entered our apartment (on numerous occasions), while we were out, without our permission, without notice, and without an emergency.
3. Building security is minimal. During one 3-month period, 9 of the 20 cars parked in the "secure" garage were broken into. We expressed our concern about personal safety in the parking garage and the owner/manager told us that she has "a club for protection" hidden in the tenants' garage--that she wouldn't venture into that garage alone without it. She did nothing to improve security (other than re-program the garage door openers). The break-ins continued. She didn't issue clubs to the tenants.
4. After we submitted our move out notice, we were given bills for $750.00 in pet deposits. These pet deposits were waived verbally when we moved in as an enticement to sign the lease. Beware--they can waive something at move in, and then turn around and charge you as you move out. Get everything in writing.
5. During our move-in walk-through inspection, they actually laughed at us for writing up "trivial" items on the inspection list--such as scratches on the counters and marks on the fireplace mantle. During our move-out inspection, these same people tried to charge us for those "trivial" items. Lucky for us, we had written them on our inventory.
We could go on and on. But we need to move on with our lives. We're so glad that we moved. If you choose to live at the Centre Court, keep meticulous records--you'll probably need them.
