Enjoy living here

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2008
I've lived in the DD Culp for about 4.5 years now, and I have had a largely positive experience.
The management is effective at addressing problems in a relatively timely manner (2 for non urgent work), and keeps the building nice and clean. Also, there are always notices when they're going to shut off the water, enter apartments, do work on the building, have concerns for residents/etc.... The other reviewer's comments about the noise are true, but to be expected in the university area. I got used to it pretty quick.
The price of the apartments is what has kept me here so long. For being only a block from the university of washington, it's the best priced apartment I could find that was a 500 sq ft studio (same size as many "one bedrooms" I saw other places). I work at the university, so finding a reasonably priced place close by was hard. Other apartments of the same size/quality/local were about $150 more. There are hardwood floors, cool ceilings (with curved wall/ceiling corners), and nice windows. The blinds in the units I've been in are all new (mine are older now, but new upon arrival).
Noise travels only up and down in the building, so it's nice that you only have to deal with one or two neighbors if you hear load music (has only happened once for me. People living here have by and large been friendly. The building is in good condition for being built in the 1930's (I think), but things do break more often than in new buildings (maybe one plumbing problem or light problem every 4-6 months). Still, management gets it fixed quickly once you put in a formal written request (2 weeks, forms are conveniently next the the managers apartment).
There have been some problems with people getting into the apartment building who don't live there, but since the management put up a notice to all residents to close the door and not let in strangers, it hasn't been a problem. I think a camera watching the front door really made this happen. Sometimes there is graffiti on the outside of the building, but it gets taken care of.
Parking is limited (9 spots total), but hasn't been a problem for me.
Only 2 washers and 2 dryers, but doesn't seem to be a problem (only 35 units or so in the place).
I have 3 friends who have moved into the building over the past 2 years, and they all like it too. It meets all my expectations for a older building, a good staff, and an apartment so close to the university. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a nice apartment but are not too thin-skinned about waiting a couple of weeks to have a leaky faucet fixed. Great place to live.
