There is a familiar theme here. It WAS a great place, but no more. The real downturn was when Harbor Properties sold it to Equity Residential - I dreaded this happening and my worst fears have come to bare. Their standards have gone down greatly. I have been here for two years and this is about it for me.
No longer are the halls kept clean, trash cans emptied or dog owners held accountable.
When you come, please follow these rules.
1. Do not live over 1st Ave, even on the 24th floor. In winter, you will not experience the Harley Davidsons roaring up and down first avenue. You will hear the sirens of the emergency vehicles. 1st Ave is a designated preferred route for them.
2. Smell the hallway of the apartment you are looking at and IF there is anything but a fresh smell - walk away. Second hand smoke is a big problem and it comes from the electrical ducts which are linked between appartments. I had to move out of one appartment. It was so bad, people at work could smell the smoke on my clothes.
3. Avoid the SW and SE tower looking south. You will get the garbage trucks at 2am in the morning with noise that is just amazing. In addition, the fire station on the seafront has your appartment to go buy - and they do a resonable amount of business. Mainly here because the alarms go off in the SW tower.
4. Ask to see the parking garage. Note how your guests will need to hand over $8 for evening parking in an insecure area. Forget day parking - look at the tarrifs near the entrance on Western Ave. Parking is tight, at 11pm when you come back, you are going to have to look hard for parking.
5. Check out the smell of the trash rooms on each floor.
6. The last two remaining original concierges are the only helpful people here. Go Jacob! And the rest of you, sorry to interrupt your personal phone calls and catalogue browsing.
I think the final turning point for me was the crack pipe floating in the fountains outside. Time to move on.
Again, it was a great place. Just look at the older revues posted here.
