Stay away from Harbor Steps

I have been a resident at Harbor Steps for over a year now. During that time I have become steadily more disgruntled with their service and what I am getting in relation to what I am paying.
The apartments are contsructed as cheaply as possible. From the carpets, interior fitout, toilets everything feels cheap.
The apartments are stinking hot in summer and freezing in winter. I agree with the previous posters that insulation is a real problem. In winter the wind howls around the apartment like an abandonded castle and it is freezing. In summer the temperatures on the west side of the southeast tower are incredible. It is well into the 80s into the night.
There is a problem with the water system. Periodically the cold water will emit only hot water, and vice-versa. It is not possible to recover from the situation for hours at a time.
The parking sucks. They recently moved over to use Northwest Parking as a contractor and put two sliding access doors in. These periodically fail, locking everybody into the carpark, and preventing the entry of others. The Northwest parking people are scary looking and ticket cars without remorse after just one day past the expiration date of the tag. When this happens the harbor steps staff do nothing to help you out other than refer you to an answering machine service at northwest - good luck!
After Northwest took over the number of parking spots for residents was restricted from previously so that they could sell more parking to the general public. This has led to the situation where you periodically can't find a car park. Also you only get one parking access badge per apartment, so if you have more than one person living there, the second person can't use the parking garage as a shortcut entry into the building, nor can they gain access to the building from the car park which is a major security problem. Needless to say it also means that the second driver of a single car household can't even access the parking garage.
The staff do not preemptively issue new parking tags even though you pay a lot for them. You need to chase the staff up and they always act like it's a hassle, even though it's their job.
The staff are generally unhelpful, do not respond to phone calls or emails and constantly need to be chased up for the smallest problems. They act like they are doing you the biggest favour by working there.
The staff are generally the most unhelpful people. They always act like it's a hassle when you ask them for help, and are never willing to do anything but the most basic. I have had them not find packages for me in the package room, even though I could see it sitting in there ready to be shipped back to the sender.
The location sucks. It's surrounded by businesses and you need to walk a long way to good Belltown night life. If you want night life nearby don't live at the Harbor Steps.
I would not recommend anybody to stay at this apartment complex. It really is one of the worst places that I have lived at the most expensive rates that I have ever paid. It's just not worth it.
