What's funny to me is that this was written so long ago...could be today, as far as I'm concerned. When in the bathroom I've caught myself ducking when the folks upstairs turn on the water. It's as if there is no insulation in the walls whatsoever. The floor plan is an insult. If I had to put it subtly, I'd say that there is no 'ease' in the space. The kitchen is in the living room, is looking at the bathroom, is right inside the front door. This has all the feel of a studio apartment. When I first stepped inside the front door, I felt that if I tripped, I'd fall out of the front windows! There are still a lot of children here (I have one, as well. He's not crazy about being here, either. We both have higher expectations.), but they aren't so noisy in our building. The folks who cause the most noise problems now are the 20-30 y.o.'s who get into fights, yell at each other, drive into the parking garage at 2 am with the stereo at full blast, and most of all have no idea what it means to respect where they live/the apt. community. Seems like folks don't realize that this is a community. In the wild, most animals have some way of knowing how not to foul their nests. That's a skill that some of the Jefferson Court Tenants don't possess. Things like spitting in the elevators (on the walls!), graffiti inside and outside the building, diapers in the recycling, and depending on which floor you inhabit, a near constant and almost palpable miasma of either cigarette smoke (this is a no-smoking building), weed (see prev.), cooking, or something spicy that I've yet to identify (I adore spicy foods of all kinds--I just don't want to smell as if I live right above the stove in a restaurant)(sigh). Strong management with a pro-active strategy would probably make this a livable place, but until then, rate this just slightly above living in one of those "apartment motels" on Aurora Ave, without the daily maid service.
