I've lived at the John Alden for about 10 months now and my experience has been 95% positive. It's a beautiful historic building walking distance to just about everything. I moved in just after it was sold to the new mgt and I was somewhat alarmed when the manager at the time was fired unexpectedly for alleged unethical behavior. At that time a few things had happened that made me feel like the place was a little sketchy or unreliable ( applications filed wrong, blinds took weeks to install etc..)and I was unsure about staying through my lease. His assistant took over and she was great and really went out of her way to help me when I had a minor accident in the parking garage. She left soon after she became manager and was replaced by Julie. I have nothing but positive things to say about Julie. She really went above and beyond the call of duty and consistently held herself to high standards. Soon after Julie took over I informed her that I would be leaving the building as I could no longer afford the rent because my income had decreased. The management then offered to lower my rent! I give Julie full credit for this, she was always looking out for the best interests of the building and the tenants. Unfortunately I still couldn't afford the rent so Julie helped arrange for me to move in to a less expensive unit. Julie worked nonstop to keep this building in shape and the overall quality has drastically improved since she started managing. I know because the first unit I moved into was rather poorly renovated before I moved in and my apartment now is much nicer and cleaner. I have had no problems so far with maintenance at all. My only complaint about the building is that my bike was stolen from the garage. I am very sad to see Julie leave and wish her the best of luck in the future. I'm sure there is a curse on the manager position here, maybe it has to do with the fact that there are no units numbered 13 in the building and several friendly ghosts.

I'd love to hear how things are now... I'm considering an apartment in the building. How is the new management since Julie has left?
