Yo!

Great Location but....

We have lived here for over seven months and are, for the most part, happy with our apartment. The location is great, right across the street from the Locks and a ten minute walk to downtown Ballard with bars, coffee shops, music stores etc. Also a 15 minute bike ride from Golden Gardens beach.
However, the complex definitely has its drawbacks. The main problem here is the mangagement. Not once have they responded to our questions, or problems in a timely manner (including when our heater caught fire in the middle of winter and was therefore out of order). For all of our questions they have completely ignored us after assuring us that they will get back to us right away. When we asked for another key, we had to wait a month before we went back to ask about it and then we were told to wait another week.
A week after we put up peace flags outside our window and flowerboxes on our ledges (as so many others had done) they sent a notice to all the tenants saying that everything had to be removed within a week or face a fine. This after being in operation for around 30 years, and all of a sudden there's a problem with this.
After reporting a leak from the ceiling in our bathroom we waited almost two weeks for a response (one manager said she would come out and look at it but she didn't show up). And the response we got was to come home to everything in our bathroom all moved around and a big hole in our ceiling, as well as a mess on the floor, with no notification or explanation.
Also, when we were touring the apartment the person showing the spaces told us that they just raised the rent for the first time in around ten years and it was only a ten dollar increase. But when our lease was up they gave us the option of signing another six month lease at a 25 dollar increase/month, month-to-month at 50 dollars more, or a year at 15 dollars more.
The windows are also very poorly sealed and let drafts in constantly, making our apartment quite cold.
The apartment is fine, except for the windows, but everything else is what we expected. We have had no real problems that are out of the ordinary with our fridge or anything else.
