I am an apartment person, never lived in a house in the last 25 yrs. From Detroit to Dallas, St. Louis to San Francisco, I lived in many apartments (I move on average once every 2 yrs). McGuire Apartments may be one of the best I ever lived. Reasons:
1. Quiet professional environment. I live on the upper floor. Due to my work, I need quiet environment and McGuire is very quiet even during the day. Part of the reasons may be solid concrete building so you don't hear your neighbor. As I am on the higher levels, I don't hear the street noise either. Judging from the people coming in and out of the buildings, most of them are professionally dressed and looks mature, minimal college age type.
2. Very friendly and helpful staff. They went out of their way to help me. I was concerned about the internet provision of this building and the leasing agent went out of his way to allow me ample time to test and review the internet setup of the building. I was looking for a box to mail christmas boxes and the cleaning staff helped me to find a recyled box in the building. The maintenace staff, cleaning staff, all very nice and helpful.
3. Location. I can walk 5 minutes to Key Arena, 15 minutes to Qwest Field, 5 minutes to Pike Place Market.... the I-5 Freeway is less than half a minute drive. Inspite of all this, you don't get the noise (see #1). This is simply amazing.
4. Building, ambience. The interior and exterior view of the building is very clean and new. The windows are huge offering you great view outside and let the light come in. Ceilings are high (i am 6'3")which gives you a wide open space ambience. Everything in my unit (Microwave, Oven, Washer/Dryer) feels new and smells new. Also, previous comment that the elevator smells bad. My experience is different. The hallway, elevators are very clean and even smell good. The carpets in the hallways on floors 3-6th may be a bit worn out (due to traffic as 3-6/fl leads to the garage) but on my floor, it is like new. This building truly feels like a luxury apartment building.

To offer a "fair and balance" assessment, below are the low lights
1. garage/parking. if you come from the suburbs or small towns and used to big ample parking spaces, Mcguire can be disappointing. the parking space is smaller (although sufficient) and lots of cars parked in tight spots (i can understand why some vehicles may be inadvertently dented). however, parking is certainly ample and i never had problem finding a space. is there greater risks of getting your car dented by careless neighbors' yes but so far i have no experienced that. Part of the problem is perception, my suggestion is "designated" parking such that tenant each has a spot.
2. dogs and pets. i do not like pets and sometimes i see people taking two or three dogs out for a walk in the elevators. it would be nice if Mcguire disallowed pets in the building.
3. Cable and Broadband. This may be the worst "dislike" i have for this building. In a way, this is entirely not a fault of this building except for some reasons, they signed a contract with Broadstripe (formerly Millenium) which is a very poor broadband/cable TV provider. due to my work, i need at least 10 mg down and 1 mg up for broadband which is not available by Broadstripe. since this is a high rise building, they don't have Dish or Direct TV. so, if you really need the latest technology for your homeoffice, this building is very limiting. however, FCC just passed a law to prohibit sole provider, we will see if this building will open up to Comcast or other cable provider and make improvement in this area.
4. Water pressure. for some reasons, at least in my unit, the water pressure is weak. this makes my shower less pleasurable.

While I appreciate you don't like pets, you made the decision to live in a building that's pet friendly. As a former tenant of this building that owned a dog, I was very happy that pet owners were respectful of other residents. You have the choice to live in a pet free apartment building to suggest that the building being pet-friendly is a negative is unfortunate because you knew when you moved in that it was. There are room for pet lovers in this world to suggest that not live in "your building" tells me a lot about your views on life.
