It may seem that my star reviews are mixed, but I'll explain here.
HALLWAYS : As former reviewers indicated, the hallways smell unattractive and definitely need some kind of air freshening or ventilation. I'm guessing many people smoke or spill stuff on the hallway carpets and that they do not clean them.
ELEVATOR : The elevator floor often looks dirty and is seldom cleaned as far as I can tell, and I have even considered doing so myself on occasion. The mailboxes are generally typical of this type of apartment complex and I have no complaint about them other than there is no box to put outgoing mail into, leaving it to the whim of the Postman (or anyone else who may desire peeking at your outgoing mail) on top of the apartment mailboxes.
BUILDING : The building is a security building and every tenant is given a key. The outside of the building is ok, not great but not completely dumpy. I would recommend the manager put the name or address higher above the shrubs as my visitors can never tell on their first visit which building is mine.
THE APARTMENT : Unlike the hallway, the apartment is much better. It's not the highest quality you'll find, but well worth the money you pay per month, which in Seattle is a bargain. Water and garbage is included in the monthly rent. You have a choice of a 6 month lease, or a 12 month lease.
THE MANAGER : A nicer manager I have yet to find. Unlike the previous reviewer's post, I have not had any problem with the manager and have found him friendly and helpful. I forgot my keys in my apartment one day when leaving for work, and didn't get home until 1:30am. Discovering I was without my keys I had no choice but to call the manager. He was completely understanding and came right out to let me in. No pushover, this guy, but very understanding.
PARKING : My only REAL complaint about this complex is the parking. Unassigned parking with few enough spaces that by the time I get home there ARE no spaces other than potentially in the parking underneath, which I have scratched up my vehicle twice trying to pull out of the space. Fortunately it's a beater and I'm not that concerned, but if you have a more expensive or prideful vehicle do NOT park under the complex. If my car was a more expensive vehicle, I'd feel safer (due to damage) parking it at a park and ride. The manager has recently somewhat addressed parking problems by limiting parking to one per licensed driver in the complex, but in my experience this is only effective if consistently enforced. Time will tell.
THE COMMUNITY : Walking down the street is not for the weak of heart. This area gives the impression of Gangsville, and all my friends make snide comments regarding gangs and prostitutes when they stop by. I honestly don't notice it much as I'm not much of the "peeping tom" type, but the comments keep on rolling. Doesn't bother me at all, but I'm not everyone.
NEIGHBORS : Haven't had a single problem with any of my neighbors or other tenants in this complex, but mostly notice they like keeping to themselves. This is kewl with me as I'm a friendly sort, but also am private. None of them are noisy and I try to keep my noise level down to a minimum.
If you're looking for the Hyatt Suites, look somewhere else. But if you're looking for a low-cost no-frills money-saving apartment, this could be what your looking for. I originally found the apartment in Craigslist, and it's fair for the price.
