Parking:
Underground and Secure, spacious compared to most downtown underground garages. (Not assigned... $113.00/month)
Noise:
Noise can be an issue every so often if you live on the courtyard side. There is a community room available to residents that is abused evry so often and the patio is right below the courtyard. Apartment noise is almost nonexistent though-very thick walls; rarely hear my neighbors.
Street noise on the other hand is significant in the summer because you have to sleep with the windows open (building retains heat -- great in the winter though). Also there is a firestation nearby.
Grounds:
Well kept. There are two public bathrooms that are always clean. The entry way and mail are is cleaned daily (7:30AM).
Safety:
OK, some of the comments on this subject on the other reviews are way out of line. The truth is that Myself and my wife have never had an issue. Yes there are homeless people nearby, but this is Seattle, homelessness is a fad downtown.
The only real problem is one of aesthetics: drug dealers. There nice and occasionally getting arrested, but they do look a bit shady.
But we have never had a problem at any time of day or night. If you live in the city look like you know where you are going and no one bothers you.
Construction:
Better than most. Haven't had one appliance, door handle, cupboard, or lever break. Although the toilets are definately low flow.
Maintenance Service Quality:
Have only had one issue and it was fixed the same day. Lightbulb replacements are avilable in the office daily.
Office Staff:
This comment is 50/50. There is one member of the staff that has been here for a long time that is great. She makes any problem brought to her attention her problem the first time. She is really willing to listen and is generally friendly and nice.
The other member of the staff is nice unless you want an exception and just isn't good at following through. For example, I signed up for the community room on a Saturday night. He failed to tell the person who had it before me that there would be someone in after them. The result: I was locked out of the room and had the search the halls for the person using it before me. Luckily I found them.
Two other negatives about staff/staff responsibilities.
1) The elevator pads (for when people move in/out) are always up.
2) Office hours are limited (sometimes they leave at 4:00 even though there hours are posted to be until 6:00PM.
***The last thing that is a bit of a negative is what happened to me earlier today. I received a notice of renewal for my lease as we have lived here 11 months. So after 1 year our rent will increase from 1070.00/month to 1200.00 month if we want to stay. This seems a bit steep. Our apartment is a 1 bedroom 1 bath (710 sq feet). I think we can get a better deal.
But overall I have been very happy living here, the location can't be beat. We walk everywhere, have one car and don't sweat it at all.
I would recommend the Shelby, but with the above mentioned caviots.
Kind Regards.
