Great value, friendly staff

I've lived at the Cedars for a year and a half, in both a two bedroom and a one bedroom apartment. Although certainly not the swankiest place in Belltown, I've really enjoyed living here.

The Cedars compromises multiple buildings: I know very little about the Bayview apartments, but in general my feeling is that they aren't as nice or secure. I have always lived in the main building off of first ave.

The apartment staff is very friendly, caring, and always fixes my problems right away. By right away I mean that when my w/d stopped working, they had a brand new one installed the next day (and they had to order the w/d.) Now, I've never bugged them with little things, but the handyman even offered to install my light bulbs (the ones on the ceiling in the kitchen, so they're hard to get to.) The office staff knows your name and asks how you are. I get the impression they really care.

The building is in decent, but not amazing condition. I've never had any bugs in my apartment, and common areas are clean, but the hallway carpet is older and the "gym room" equipment is squeaky, so if you want new and shiny, this might not be the place for you. Then again, you'll pay a lot more for new and shiny in this neighborhood!

I rarely hear my neighbors, and they all seem quiet and friendly. The only time I ever had the smallest problem was when I was walking on the roof deck one night (fifteen minutes past closing) and one renter was trying to sleep and got annoyed. I got off and that was it. No big deal.

The apartments themselves are in good condition. My heating bills are pretty low, so they seem well insulated. The window insulation (piping') is breaking off a little, but I haven't bothered to ask about it. The power has never gone out. And the fire alarm has probably gone off three times since I've lived there (we share a system with CJs.)

Parking is easier near the Cedars intersection than other areas, which is nice when I have guests. And there's a bus stop right across the street. The Myrtle Edwards park is a few blocks away, for when you want to go running or have a picnic. In general, the apartment has a great location.

I noticed a previous poster commenting about the security of the garage. Yes, I had my car broken into, once, while parking there. This unfortunately is pretty common for Belltown and Queen Anne. Most of my friends, regardless of building, have also had break-ins, as well as friends parked on the street. Management posted a guard for a little while (the breakins happened a few cars a night for a few nights) until they ceased, and they changed out the garage door opener code.
