Yo!

Overall - a decent place

I'm not sure what the Zante Apartments are like now, but this is how I knew them when I lived there...

As a first year college student, and for my first time living in the city, the Zante Apartments worked out well. The manager was very patient with me and my roomie as first-time renters - he even gave us a deal on the rent!

PROS:
Comfortable units with open floorplans
Thick walls - very little neighbour noise
Patios/balconies for every unit
Dishwasher in unit
Very little traffic noise despite proximity to Aurora Ave.
On busline #358 - 15 minute ride to downtown
Across the street from Larry's Market, Oaktree Cinema, IHOP, Burgermaster, and other cheap but tasty restaurants
Short bus-ride away from PCC if you prefer organic food
(if you smoke) smoking is okay inside (altho' our apartment smelled clean and fresh when we moved in)
pets okay with $200 deposit
Cool shrubbery out front

CONS:
- The washers and dryers broke repeatedly (4 times in the year I lived here), and maintenance took over a week to fix them
- Symphony of car alarms some nights
- 1 block away from Aurora Ave - haven to drug dealers and prostitutes (I never experienced any problems with them, but I witnessed a few fights, and I talked with a few prostitutes at the bus stop)
- #358 bus can be scary at night if you're cute and little
- upstairs neighbours smoked and continually dropped cigarette butts in our patio/garden even after we asked them to stop
- manager was difficult to get ahold of, and due to a change in management when we moved out, we never received our deposit back despite the fact that we kept the place in near perfect condition
- Cool shrubbery was butchered about a week before I moved out; I hope it's grown back happily

That's about all I can say. I felt it was a good deal for the price and the location... but a year on Aurora was enough for me.*
