I lived at Autumn Ridge for 3 years (7/2004 to 7/2007) and found it mostly a decent place to live. However, when I left, they billed for for not paying my non-refundable application fee, and said I had no deposit! When I went to talk to them, I was told that they were under new management, and the old management had been bad at filing, so they couldn't find the proof I had paid those 2 fees. There are several things wrong with this scenario.

1. They just sent me a bill, with no explanation. If I had paid it, I'm sure they would have been content to just pocket the extra.
2. Why is it assumed I didn't pay fees required to move in' Because old management had a bad filing system' Why are tenants punished for that'
3. When I talked to them, they said the burden of proof was on me to prove I paid! That is a total lie. Legally, they wouldn't stand a chance in court.

Luckily for me I had records of all those fees, so I won't be paying them a dime. But this whole scenario reeks of "let's just bill everyone and hope a few suckers pay us extra". And blaming it on the previous management is so unprofessional. When I talk to my managers, I want to know that they are running the business like professionals, not screwing me and then passing the buck like some fly by night company.
