It's OK

I've been here a year and am just about to sign on for 1 more. OK is the only way to describe this place. The reason I moved here was that I go to TCC and it is a short walk (3 minutes if you J-walk, 6 minutes if you go down to the crosswalk-which I recomend)to campus. For that reason alone, it's been great. There are many, many TCC student here, you can see them walking with their bookbags/backpacks to/from campus all the time-be careful of them j-walking. I do know of some drug use (can smell pot from down stairs sometimes-damn pot smells good!) but have seen no drug deals or arrests. There are a few older folks that do like things quite, but when I first moved in, I had the choice of 3 apartments in 3 different buildings. Managment told me that 1 particular building had older folks in it and suggested that me, my kid, and my dog pick one of the other buildings-which was thoughtful for all. I have a 2 bedroom, top floor, on the "big lake" and the view is nice. We also like the fact that we can stand out on our balcony and feed the ducks. There is a lot of goose/duck/swan poo around the lakes! I don't really mind it, but I keep one pair of shoes just for walking my dog on the path around the lakes because of it. There are pretty swans in the lakes but the male is very mean-don't let your kids/dogs go near it! He is larger than you think! My kid was standing at the edge of the lake throwing cereal into the water for it, and he jumped out of the lake right in front of my kid and beat her with it's wings-out of the water, standing straight up, he was twice as tall as my kid. He also killed 2 of his own babies and all the geese babies-it was kinda gross but they did a good job of cleaning up the little bodies right away. Managment is not as good as it they could be-they still call me by the wrong name-a combo of my first and last names, I have no idea how that happend but I get a laugh out of it every time so I haven't corrected them. I once was 2 hours late with the rent and they charged me a late fee and made me go and get a chashiers check to pay it-pain in the butt. I was a mite bit upset and the manager was slightly on the smart-ass side about it. I thought they should have talked to me with more respect than they did. Managment gave me a "tow warning" for having expired tabs-I didn't think the fact that I couldn't afford to get tabs that month was any of their buisness nor did it affect them-so why threaten to tow my car for it'. I get the feeling that we are all just numbers to them, not people. The grounds keepers are great. They are dedicated, helpful and actually nice guys! The playground is old, rusty and worn out. I don't let my kid play there. We go down the street to a really nice park. The school system is not the best-there is a large fully covered elemntary school bus stop right in the apartment complex though. The cabana is nice-strangly, there was a wedding held there last summer-to each his own I guess. Everything is within walking distance-Fred Meyer market place, Hollywood video etc...The cable is now provided by Comcast. The wireing for it is not that good and I've had many problems. The laundry room is a major pain! It costs $1.25 to wash and $1 to dry, but it always takes 2 cycles to dry-and don't dry on High Heat! I've srunk many pants down to capris this way. They'll tell you the washers are "double" washers-but they're not. Don't leave your laundry in there for 1 second past the cycles-they will get thrown on the floor or in the gargage can-timeing is everything! The gates are okay-I like them even though they tie up traffic with people that don't know how to use the "call box". I've seen 2 cars get hit by the gate or hit the gate because they try to make it through as it's closing-funny stuffto watch! The pool is nice. All and all, I would only recomend this place for TCC students. I will be moving as soon as I'm done with school.
