My wife and I moved into the Overlook Apartments in 2001. We were in the middle of purchasing a house that was contingent and we need to due a bit of remodeling on this 100 year old house once the owners moved out. We new it would be several months before we were able to move in, and we need a place that was close to our kids school and daycare. The staff of the Overlook seemed friendly and the landscaping was very nice. It also had a security gate, which at the time we were inquiring was supposedly going through upgrades (this gate never worked the entire year we lived there). We singed a 6-month lease and moved in. It was not long after we moved in we begin to see the true side of the overlook.
Within the first few weeks the city close the pools, stating the water was unfit to swim in. We then had a simple problem with our garbage disposal. A hole the size of a quarter appeared in the bottom of the disposal. We contacted the management and they had a repairman come out to service it. We got a gold card notice stating the disposal was working properly. As soon as we turned the sink on water rushed out the same un-repaired hole in the bottom. Again we contacted the management and again a repairman was sent out. This same procedure took place 5 times before we took the disposal out our self?s and placed it on the managers desk. This time we finally got a new one.
A few other areas of concern came from our motor home being broken into in the parking lot and 4 bikes were taken out of it. Our neighbors beneath us were constantly fighting and doing car engine repairs in their living room (Yes they brought in the motor in their apartment and worked on it inside their living room). We constantly complained about the noise with our neighbors since they would fight and run this engine in the middle of the night. The only thing that got them to leave was a huge fight, in witch their entire apartment was ransacked; causing the police to came out and arrested them. Since the apartment was in such shambles it remained un-rented for the next 5 months we lived there (this was a blessing) as others on this site pointed out, we too were faced with rent changes in the middle of our contract. And the final kicker is that over the course of the next 2 years after we moved out we have been contacted by 3 separate collection agencies saying we did not pay our final accounting notice. Luckily for us we keeps great records and have a copy of the final accounting notice showing it paid in full as well as our cleared check and the bank statement showing when it cleared (it cleared within 5 days of us moving out).
My recommendation is to run far way from these apartments and any managed by this group.
