Here are some of the things I have witnessed since I moved here a little over a year ago. I happen to enjoy the management and I have found maintenance to be friendly, helpful and prompt. But the overall construction HAS to be minimal to standards. VERY thin walls mean you hear EVERYTHING whether you want to or not. Stereos,couples laughing, screaming. Footsteps and yes,even sex can be heard without straining to hear. Hearing the neighbors attempts to play various musical instruments wouldn't be so bad if he could play them. Water from the bath tub above you sounds like it is going to burst through the walls at any moment, Nothing is left to the imagination. The stairwells and parking lots echo loudly. Old beat up, junky cars clutter and the trash dumpsters frequently spill over (though there is a person to try and keep up with them by emptying them several times a week.) Broken glass abounds. Suspicious cars and shady characters come and go from midnight on and not always quietly, I believe that to be drug dealing. Public drunkedness, loud parties, domestic violence and living next to another complex tends to keep the noise up. Car break-ins have been reported along with vandalism. My biggest disappointment was the no cats policy. The rent is fair for what you get.
I believe you will find problems at any apt. complex. Research to find one that will suit your particular wants and needs (my next move will definately allow cats!)Try to find some positive things also and know that there are agencies out there that will help with Renter's issues. Look in the phone book.
