We moved to Tacoma from out of state - my husband is in the military. We're quiet, and we don't have any children. First thing that bothered me when we moved into our apartment was that the appliances are from 1988. I wish it was an exaggeration, but my microwave has 1988 stamped on the inside of it. Second thing, our apartment has tile counter tops - not all do. They are disgusting. When I attempt to clean them, the dirty gray grout starts to dissolve. Our carpet was poorly installed. It is started to wear by the doorways. No doubt, they'll want to charge us for that. We have a stone fireplace, not all units do. Some have a wooden mantle. Our fireplace has paint on the brick from the crew who hastily painted around it. Our screen door has remained broken for 8 months. When the maintenance man came, he said he couldn't do anything about it. How about GET US A NEW SCREEN DOOR'! There is no pantry in our kitchen, so we're forced to prioritize our groceries and dishes. Refrigerator is new, which is a plus. There is a mirror in our bathroom that runs the length of the counter (probably 8 ft., or so) the glass is stained and always looks dirty - no matter now much I clean it. I'm not sure how you all feel, but being a military wife where people frequently visit my home from my husband's battery - I'd like my home to look clean. It's hard to do that when your mirror looks filthy. Our shower has holes and cracks. We've been fighting black mold in the tub. There is no ceiling light in the master bedroom. I've never had a problem with parking, and the storage provided on your back patio is sufficient. Although, ours was painted a strange color. It almost looked like someone used it as a 3rd bedroom. Had colors and patterns painted that you'd use in a nursery. I shudder at the thought. Our neighbors are ridiculously noisy. I know that you deal with a certain amount, especially living so closely. The management is rude and lazy. That, right now, is my primary issue. Since we're military, we can set up an allotment to have money directly withdrawn from my husband's pay and paid to the apartments. The first month - January - he paid the month in full. The allotments were to start in February. Instead of that happening - the first allotment was drawn on Jan. 15th. So, for the month of January - we overpaid by around $400. No one contacted us from the complex. I called and sent my husband to the office - they told him it wasn't their problem and said that he had to deal with the military. The truth is - it is their problem - and they have a LEGAL OBLIGATION to inform you of overpayment. It is now 7 months later, still with no resolution. I've tried withholding our water/sewer/garbage payment to the apartments, but that just ends up with nasty notes left on our door. I find it amazing that they know when I'm $50 behind in the water/sewer/garbage, but somehow miss that I've overpaid $400 dollars. Strange... Don't you think' Here's what you need to be aware of - especially if you're military - the apartments are owned by Equity Properties. That's who you have to avoid. Equity holds a contract with the military, and when they give you your initial housing briefing - the guy who gives it is from Equity. They try and sell you on the fact that Equity doesn't charge you to replace a light bulb, etc. When in my opinion, if you need someone to change a light bulb for you - you should be charged. Another matter that I've heard about is that when your lease is up after the first year - they'll raise it between $100 and $400 dollars. They say it's because it is market value - but with the crappy 80's appliances and interiors, it's not worth it. I'm guessing that since they deal with the military, they know just how much you're allotted for housing - hence the raises. After all, you can look any of that up on the internet. Here's a tip - if you live on the East side of I-5, cost of living is a little cheaper. So, take my word for it. Westridges suck - they're not as ghetto as Seeley Lake (Lakewood, also owned by Equity) but I'd say the majority of why this place sucks for me is the management. Thieves... Ahh, and I mentioned noisy neighbors - but, as an afterthought - many people have dogs here - large and small. They often leave them to bark, howl and whine on their patios and balconies. All night.

I completely agre with you, just tell the management that you are going to contact the rpp people about their low standard of customer service and they'll do their job right. That is what my husband does when we need something done. Our rent was going to increase $300 dolars after our 1 year lease and my husband had to go and be rude to the manager directly and they only increased it by $100, which is still a lot since this apartments suck. My mayor problem right now are my neighbors, they are just plain dirty, how people can live in filth I will never understad it.

I feel ya - my neighbor (also military) screams and yells at his wife - they must have gone through at least three sets of dishes already with the way things get broken over there. Their back porch has a broken recliner and a bunch of dirty card board that their dogs crap on (their dogs change monthly). The neighbors on the other side have about 15 people living there. The guy above me has a parrot that he screams at (I wish I were kidding). We've nicknamed him the pirate because he walks so hard on one foot all you hear is *stomp* *scrape* *stomp* *scrape*. What cracks me up is that I'd put a garbage bag by my front door right before my husband comes home so that he'll take it out before he comes in, and I was written up for it. Said they'd received numerous complaints. It was there for a hour. Their garbage bins aren't easily accessible, either. Either way - it's not the worst complex I've seen. But, let's just say - the outward appearance is deceiving. I found a great place to live, close to Post. But, there's a waiting list - I hope to be out of the apartment by the beginning of December. Wish you both luck!
