First of all, I can't believe I spent the last hour and a half reading the 50 some reviews. Second, I can't believe I didn't think about reading the reviews BEFORE I moved here. I understand that you will never be able to choose your neighbors and that no matter where you go, you will run into similar problems, but it gets old. I am one to go above and beyond -- I will ALWAYS ask for a supervisor or continue up the corporate ladder till I have the CEO's cell phone on speed dial, but unfortunately, being headstrong won't always work.

At move in (April 2008), I was pleasantly surprised at the upkeep and the friendliness of my leasing agent (who, after about two months into my lease, left); in fact, I don't recognize ANYONE in the office anymore. Last month I came out to my vandalized car (dog poop all over it - CLASSY right') and was literally LAUGHED at when I presented my complaint to the staff. When my husband went in to talk to them they gave him attitude asking him "what we expected THEM to do about it" and when he mentioned getting the local PD involved they changed their tune.

My neighbors below me constantly have people coming in and out generally after the 10PM quiet hours, slamming doors, and fighting and yelling at each other every other day with their CHILD screaming and crying. I tried submitting a report to Child Services, but have had no luck in the past two months to gather sustantial information for them to even look into it.

These days everyone wants "proof" because the people that matter can't and won't be there when it counts. And no document of your complaints will really make a difference when it comes to getting out of your lease. Who knew that the luxery of peace and quiet, respect, honesty, and all those other things you were supposed to have been taught in school would be thrown out the window when you entered the real world and started RENTING'

I am considering starving myself for the next two months to save up the 200% rent charge to terminate my lease! I'm truly disappointed. Especially since I have gone through RPP with the Army entrusting that the housing office would do those of us who have chosen to live off base some sort of justice and find decent places for us to live without us doing a ton of research ourselves! As if we don't have enough on our plates to move all the time...

Hi there... I'm really sorry you're having such a hard time. You may have read my post about them keeping the extra money that was mistakenly paid to them (via the military allotment, of course). The only way I've found to get out of a lease without penalty is to have "orders" to move on post. We're considering that. The, I found out that the same company that owns the Westridges also runs housing on Post. So, I'm not entirely sure what we're going to do now. Where we move to after our lease is up in January will be the place I live while he's deployed... I've been using hotpads.com to search for a new place - you can looks at rental homes as well as apartmemts. What kills me is that they're going to want to raise our rent after our 1 year lease is up, and I know they will try and not let us go month by month until we can move - but, the ironic thing is - they want to raise rent on a crappy apartment with dirty tile counters, dingy 80's wood trim and doors, cracked and buckling ceilings, a bathtub with cracks, chemically stained mirrors, a broken screen door that the maintenance crew tried shoving back into place... Not to mention, rude neighbors. Oh, and don't feel too bad about your car vandalism - someone threw up on the top of our car - then proceeded to smear it all over. People are so ignorant... Anyways... Good luck to you.

Nice im also a army wife and im having issues about leaving. I am not going to move on post. But we are trying to find a house to buy. I am not paying 2 months rent or paying rent here when i dont live here. Then pay rent or mortgage at my new place. thats total BS! I also have ignorant loud nieghbors above me. The only nice and quiet ones are the couple across from me. The leasing staff is pathetic. They love to argue with me and harrass me all the time. And the maintenance people are pathetic. The know who i am. Because i call all the time and complain about every single thing. There is nothing on my renewal lease that there is a 2 months rent policy. Yes it says there is a penalty but there is nothing on there with number figures. if it aint on there then i aint f'n doing. I moved in here July 2007. My rent was $896 a month. A year later, no where to go i had to stay here. My fraking rent jumped to $1,012 a month. My husband doesnt make enough money to be using all up our BAH. we need the rest for utilities and other things. I cant wait to move. Also i am going to the JAG OFFICE and bringing my lease, my journal of all the noise, yelling, door slaming, dog scratching above me. the times it happened. what they said, how long it lasted. And all the things the leasing office does to me. That should get me out of the lease for free. Im not staying here.

Equity is making a mint via the contract they have with Ft. Lewis. They push Westridge as off-base housing and overcharge every single resident. The best this to do is for military residents to raise your concerns to Equity via the local media. It's a rip off.

Yes...you are right. They are ripping off the government! I went to Jag about trying to get out of our lease early... and was told that according to WA state law, they can make you pay the rent every single month of your lease, until they re-rent your apartment. So think about it...they are not gonna try to rent it. That's why we chose to stick out the lease. I hate it!!! I found a beautiful 5 bedroom house five minutes from Fort Lewis for cheaper than I am paying for this tiny apartment!!! Now that will make you sick to think about!! I get mad at myself for not investigating before I moved in.
