Not so bad...until they send you to collections

I lived in the Park Place Apartments for 8 months and loved every minute of it. We had a great little apartment right on the courtyard with a plum tree right off our patio. In the wintertime they put a fountain in the pool and with the lights on the clubhouse it was really gorgeous. The complex manager was a little rude, but efficient, and hey, as long as she gets stuff done I don't really care if she's nice. Awesome maintenance guy, always on top of everything and a cool guy to boot.

All in all, except for a minor issue with a tenant above us (which we were able to resolve ourselves, like normal adults), Park Place was fantastic...until I tried to get an apartment in a different city about a year later and found out they'd sent my boyfriend and I to collections for fees they never told us about.

After moving out I called the manager three times and even stopped by to make sure we didn't owe anything extra (I'd painted all the walls in the apartment different colors and even though I repainted them back to the original color I expected some nominal charges). I was told every time our deposit covered any extraneous charges.

Not so apparently, because they sent us to collections for a measly $160. Talking to the debt recovery attorney a year later, because I'd just found out about it, he informed me that they'd actually taken no action to even notify us of the charges. No letters, no phone calls, no nothing. Just sent us right to collections. I stood right in front of that woman and watched her go through our file, I heard her say we owed nothing...and then she sent us to collections! Needless to say the debt recovery agency felt sorry for us because we both had perfect credit and it was obvious we'd gotten screwed over, so they dropped all the penalty fees and interest. and took it off our credit reports.

Galina ( the complex manager ) is an idiot.

That would be why you want to check your credit report at least once a year.

I live here currently and this will be helpful to know when I leave next summer. I will definitly be keeping my paperwork and demand a walk through with a notary public. I also will be letting her know I was made aware that this was a problem. I agree with everything else though- the place is fairly nice.
