It is my understanding that this used to be a nice complex. It was built cheaply (like many) but maintenance does what they can to keep things working and glued together. I do have an oven I can't use because it heats unevenly and unpredictably. Either that or some unknown force destroyed my oven-related culinary skills the same time I moved here.

I have lived here 2 years and in that time I've had my apt broken into, my car stolen, and 2 (chain-locked) kid's bikes stolen. Oh, and my son was hit by a car at about 20mph in the parking area here. (He walked out from behind a shrub that was taller than him so technically, neither he nor the driver could have looked for each other easily before the crash).

In fairness, I don't think this apartment complex is directly responsible for crime. However, 90% of thefts and robberies in this area are drug-related. This isn't a secret, they put information like this in the newspaper. So perhaps not accepting renters with multiple drug-related convictions would improve the quality of life for the many single-moms, disabled people, and mobile and/or young professionals who make up the majority of residents here.

This would probably also help with the noise issue. About three nights a week my kids and I listen to really loud 90's rock courtesy of my neighbors. Persistent calls to security and repeated conversations with the property manager has done almost nothing to change this. I have come to accept this as a hazard of apt. living but if you don't want to, don't live near my building. Also, regarding noise, I can hear my neighbors use the toilet so I am assuming they can hear me also. Some people might not be comfortable with this.

The managers will always have a smile for you. This includes when I asked them why they told my children they were going to call Child Protective Services (and they did call CPS) to have CPS come take them (which CPS didn't, shockingly enough, I essentially got an apology) because no one was watching them, this right in front of their very kind and responsible, albeit softspoken, 17 yr-old full-time (in the summer) babysitter. My kids only know about child abuse from the TV so this was pretty traumatic for them. I don't know, I thought that was a little inappropriate. In fairness, it hasn't happened since. Of course, nothing even close to this has happened to my family any other place we lived.

I truly enjoy many of my neighbors, and my kids love the pool even though the heater was broken all last summer and only worked two weeks this summer before breaking again, and so I will deal with the rest of the crap that I never saw coming when I toured the model apartment (which has much nicer amenities than my "similar" one).

If I had been warned, I would have paid more money for a different experience some other place. Of course, if you move here we might become friends so make your own decision. :)
