Crystal Creek

My favorite part about this apartment complex was that it was so quiet! It's located off the main road in a grove of trees, so even though the freeways and highways are convenient, the road noise doesn't leak through. The neighbors are also fairly quiet; I don't know if it's because there's extra insulation between apartments or because there are just quiet people living there. Most of the people living there are older and retired, and there are also some families with small children, but the younger party-age crowd is largely absent.

Crystal Creek is one of the most expensive apartment complexes in the area, but in this case, you get what you pay for. The noisier people live in the cheaper apartments. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and every time I had a maintenance concern in my apartment (there weren't many), they were addressed the same day I reported them. Management is wonderful, very friendly and helpful.

The drawbacks: the complex has narrow roads and no sidewalks, so it can be a little frightening to walk around, especially at night. Luckily most of the residents drive slowly through the complex. There's only one meter for the utilities (except for electricity) so the conservation-minded people have to pay the same rate for water, sewer, garbage, etc. as their more wasteful neighbors.

Public transit is about a half mile away. Grocery stores are about two miles away, although there's a decent convenience store a half mile away. There's a bike lane on both sides of Minnehaha Street, but sidewalks don't run the whole length of the street. The Van Mall area, with shopping and restaurants, is about three miles away.
