Nice Apartment, Awful Neighbors

Let me start by saying that this apartment is beautiful. I love the kitchen and I'm on the third floor - which means gorgeous vaulted cielings. It's fairly roomy (approx 1300 sq ft) and if you pay the extra $$$ for a garage, there's plenty of storage space. The staff has always been very friendly (when you can find them... they are often absent during office hours) and the maintenance crew has been fantastic.

There have been some problems, however, that have helped us to make the decision to move out at the end of this lease (we will have lived here two years).

1. The Neighbors.

I don't know how else to say it, but most of our neighbors have been outrageously freaky. For some reason I thought that Heatherwood's practice of charging more than the going rate for apartments in the neighborhood might weed these folk out. It didn't. I'll define "freaky" and just how that was a problem in items to come.

2. Paper-Thin Walls.

If I never hear Ukranian rap music again, it will be too soon. You can hear everything. I mean everything. I can hear the exhaust fans when the neighbors run them... so imagine the joy of neighbor after neighbor blasting music, having parties, and having some sort of foreign mafia (I swear) banging on their doors at 2:00 every morning.

3. Poor Parenting.

Let me preface this by saying that I am a parent. I know that kids will be kids. But it is absolutely outrageous the way kids are let loose out here. Three and four-year-olds play in the parking lot until after midnight, throwing balls into cars and screaming. One three year old girl wanders around outside all afternoon every day. She knocks on every door in the complex, looking for people to play with her. I'm scared that she's going to knock on the wrong door someday and disappear. Who knows where her mom is... Who knows where any of these parents are and why they aren't supervising their children' If you have a nice car, pay the extra money and get a garage. It's the only way to avoid getting your car hit by balls and rocks and other thrown objects.

4. Shoddy construction.

Outlets fall off the walls. If you're on the top floor, you can't use your master bedroom balcony because moss from the roof falls and covers the floor every time it rains. Doors and windows don't seal and it can get quite breezy inside.

I guess my summary is that if you're a heavy sleeper who happens to be hard of hearing, and you don't mind tripping over forgotten toys in stairwells or having kids begging you for attention - this may just be the place for you.

If this will grate on your nerves after a while, I'd recommend renting a cheaper place and saving your money to buy a house ASAP. There's no point in paying for luxury if you can't enjoy it.

Brentwood Apartments the staff is never gone. I have never gone to their office and no one was there. I think they are just a few blocks away. Price on apartments are great. I would want to rent where the staff is there when they say that they are going to be! 7 days a week they are open.
