New tenants, beware!

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2006
I lived at Highland Hills 3 years, and for the most part enjoyed it. But there are some serious problems. FIRST, the guest parking is awful. Shared spaces are limited--tenants with an extra car, and guests, often have to drive all around the large complex to find a spot (there is no street parking). SECOND, my car was in perfect condition when I moved in. 3 years later, I can't even count all the door dings, including chipped paint, it got from neighbors. Add in the side mirror knocked off by a neighbor, and a large dent in the side made by another neighbor, and my car suffered more damage in 3 years at Highland Hills than it has during the 8 years I have owned it. THIRD, if you move in here, make sure you note every single spot, or scratch, or mark, or anything in the apartment that is not noted by management upon your move-in - whether it is on the carpet, windows, walls, cabinets, appliances, where ever it is. Make a careful notation of the size and color (yes, measure it!). If you do not do this, management will stick you with the repair/cleaning bill when you move out. When I moved in, there was a large stain on the livingroom carpet that management did not note. I documented it IN WRITING to management when I moved in, but they still made me pay for extra cleaning because they told me that my description of the stain did not match their description after I moved out. They had actually measured the stain, included it's distance from the walls, and described its color as yellow. I had not measured it when I moved in, nor did I give it a color. So, they accused ME of making the stain after I moved in and charged me an extra $60 to clean the carpet. I argued with management, and they tried very hard to get me to take responsibility for it by saying things like this: I had a computer by that wall, so I must have spilled pop; it's a large stain, so I probably had a leaky fish tank. They pressured and pressured me, but I refused to admit doing something the prior tenant had done. They finally gave me back half of the extra $60 charge. After being a clean, quiet, single, middle-aged tenant who always paid my rent on time and always reported any problems to management, I was extremely insulted by the way management treated me when I moved out. This is unfortunate for them because instead of telling people how nice it was living there, I will tell only this story.
