I moved out of my apartment June 30th 2009. I did a walk through that day and everything was marked clean. On July 9th I received a check for my deposit and a copy of our walk through stating everything was in order. On July 19th I received a addendum to our walk through and a request to pay for carpet cleaning with a postmarked date of July 16th. I sent a letter stating it was clean when I left on June 30th and to my understanding it was past the 14 days limit on making a damage claim. They responded with a letter Aug 3rd saying that they contacted me on the July 13th by phone. I have phone records that prove otherwise. They sent me another letter saying they were charging me 680.00 for carpet replacement. They have now sent me to collections. The collection agency refused to remove the collection despite being sent copies of the clean walk through and the postmarked letter for July 16th. Please save your money and trouble. Many of the good reviews are written by Highland Hills. Read between the lines. Look at their score compared to others. This will be resolved in my favor. I have an attorney, I have done my research, and this will be the basis for my law school project. I have plenty of time to put into this and have decided to sue Highland Hills for violation of the Landlord Tenant Act.

I think the expectation is that you bring your own paper, not that it's always out.

Wow, nothing changed after I left in 2006 after living there 3 yrs. I was a good, responsible, honest tenant and mgmt accused me of staining the carpet. they wanted me to pay for extra carpet cleaning because of a stain that was there when I moved in. I argued w/the manager who would not give in and I had no choice but to accept his offer of 50% payment for the cleaning. boy did I learn my lesson - document every single tiny spot or mark anywhere in an apt. or be prepared to be accused of causing damage. I was extremely disappointed in this place because of the treatment I received upon moving out. Not recommended.
