The Truth About Mission Hills... Look Elsewhere!

Mission Hills was a total disappointment on many fronts. First, the staff and management are notorious for selling amenities they never plan on following through with, i.e. the coffee shop, grocery store and theatre. I was there for 2.5 years and not one of these amenities promised to me during the sign-in ever came to fruition. The front office staff is extremely rude and severely lacking in customer service; I received more push back from them than I did a can do attitude.

More specifically, their response to your questions and/or needs is always followed by, There will be a delay, or No. We can t do that. For example, I had a maintenance problem that took them over three months to take a look at and fix. Then they tried to blame me for their delay by saying they tried contacting me three times, which was a total lie because I had a member of the maintenance team call my cell phone three months later and state, Sorry for the delay. I know it s been some time since you made the request, but we re able to accommodate your request now.

A year ago, I had guests visiting and my toilet became clogged. I called Mission Hills front office. No one answered the phone. I left a voice mail message. The maintenance staff has a separate phone number. I called them as well. They too didn t answer the phone. I left voice mail messages with both parties stating that I had an emergency situation, yet no one responded or followed-up with me. My guests and I had to leave the apartment to use the restroom. Mission Hills says they provide 24-hour maintenance, but clearly they don t. I never received a call from either the front office or maintenance about this matter.

Two summers ago, I had guests visit the swimming pool only to be grilled by the leasing agent as to who my guests were and how many of them came. My nephew was one of the guests (a 10-year-old) and the leasing agent was so rude to them that he became embarrassed. No guest should be treated with any kind of disrespect. Needless to say, I was very upset about this and visited the pool only once thereafter.

I ve had several problems with my apartment i.e. toilet over flowing, AC/Heating unit stopped working during the middle of summer, and more. Approximately three weeks ago, they had the maintenance staff trimming the bushes with a very loud chain saw at 7:30 in the morning! I had guests visiting who were woken up by the very loud chainsaw noise. They commented on how they were surprised the grounds crew would be permitted to make such loud noise at that time in the morning.

The walls in the apartment are so thin I could hear my neighbors below me when they cough. It sounds as if they re less than a foot a way from me. Plus, your utility bill will be high every month because of the poor insulation in the apartment. It s unfortunate that I, the tenant, had to be the responsible party and ask the front office for a HVAC filter because a typical luxury apartment complex would contact you on a quarterly basis and let you know it s time to have them replaced and do so for you.

Mission Hills is an over-priced complex especially for billing themselves as "luxury" apartments. When people pay for "luxury" they pay for customer service, which is completely lacking at Mission Hills. I would highly recommend saving your precious time -- time dealing with the incompetence, haughty attitude, and laziness of the front office staff -- and your hard-earned money and live at a complex that doesn't promote false advertising. I have previously lived in a luxury apartment complex that more than exceeded my needs and expectations, so they re definitely out there.

Lastly, the office staff is not in six days a week as stated from a previous reviewer/blogger. I had an emergency plumbing situation arise five weekends ago and the MANAGER was out; no management was in. Also, the staff never checks their answering machine, so forget thinking they ll check their messages and call you back because they don t.

I totally believe the previous comment Wonderful apartment was written by Mission Hills staff or perhaps an inadvertent post because like another reviewer/blogger said there is no CVS or Hy-Vee close by. I have many more truths to tell you about Mission Hills, but it would take too long to write, and I hope my shortened version of the truth would provide you with enough insight to help you make an informed decision.

It s up to you whether you choose to move in or not, but I would be forewarned. I know it s easy to be dazzled by how the complex looks, but as two previous reviewers/bloggers cautioned, Looks good from the outside and What lies beneath, including my experience should speak volumes.

The truth about Mission Hills is that they re not luxury -- they re just plain sub par. Look elsewhere.

We've lived here almost 1 year--Never heard about any coffee shop/grocery store or theater. You are so right about the Noise--It is Horrible!! We thought by renting upstairs we wouldn't suffer from noisy neighbors--Wrong--The office Staff Raves about the Double Concrete Insulation--maybe for the floors, But there's ABSOLUTELY NO INSULATION IN THE WALLS OR DOORS. In over a decade of renting, we never had to deal with VERY LOUD NOISE FROM INTERIOR CLOSING DOORS Closing [NOT Slamming] any door normally NOISILY ECHOES LOUDLY up (down) the walls LIKE THEY'RE IN YOUR APARTMENT & Not in Another One. "No" is the favorite word of the office staff. They don't get back to you in a timely manner--I agree. You have to put maintenance requests in at least 2 times. Maintenance seems ok. After 5PM on a Saturday night, I had what I thought was an emergency, called the after hours number & she said she would have someone call me. After I called, I was able to fix the problem, so I called back to cancel. The guy still showed up later that night to make sure I was ok. So that was cool, but unnecessary. Expect screw ups with your paperwork & keys when you move in. Overall, It Looks Way Better Than It Is. We ranked it a 2 because there are way too many hassles & not enough peace & quiet for the high rent that's paid. FYI, we're NOT picky people.
