I was an occupant, living with my mother because i was injured while serving in afghanistan,it never occured to us to get me on the lease for at least 6months, after figuring out that it had to be done or my mother could be evicted, we went down to the office and tried to get me on the lease. In my juvenile years i had a few things on my record, but when i turned 18 I had the files sealed, or so i thought because of the homeland security act"which unsealed juvenile records, i have been Crime free for 11years, and according to the housing authority, the apartment complex can only go back 7years, end result, i ended up getting kicked out and having to live in my car because i had no where to go. I am currently in the process of filing a complaint with the housing authority for violation of right to privacy.

If an apartment complex says no criminal...even if was a misdemeanor...even if it was in a juvenille record, no is no. The housing authority has nothing to do with it!!! If your record was supposed to have been sealed...great! That is something you'd have to speak to the court system about. Good luck. Everyone deserves a second chance. There are some things in life which have serious consequences and haunt you forever! I'm sure apartment staff may care, but large companies have rules and regulations which they have to adhere to!
