Management is rude, fake, and not genuine...

This seemed to be a great apartment in the catalog and during my tour only. I went in search of a new apartment and this was close to my current address. The two females who helped me were sweet as pie and very attentive when i went in. They showed me an apartment and all was good. I paid the application fee and even put a deposit to hold the unit. I was told that if the deposit would come back higher after my application was processed, I had the option to either pay the additional or take back my holding monies.
Well, let's see....It took three days and not a peep from the management office on the progress of my credit and criminal background check. Then they called me two hours after my initial call and said they needed a paystub. OK, not a problem, but should'nt that of been a concern three days earlier. So although a huge inconvenience I drove all the way there to give it to them.
Two days later, they call me and tell me it will be a substantial (much, much, higher) amount more. This is amazing to me since i have perfect, no kidding, PERFECT CREDIT!!! and a squeaky clean background. So I tell them no thank you I am going to look elsewhere. Those sweet professional (yeah right) women were like night and day. They tried to do anything and everything to get me to come sign the lease. When for the fourth time I said no, the woman on the phone was extremely rude and said "FINE, THEN COME GET YOUR MONEY". I said ok and was on my way to go get it.
When i got to the complex, I was the only person in the office. Two more couples walked in after me. I was asked if I was so and so, I said yes, without skipping a beat, the two women started to help the people behind me. I waited twenty minutes for anyone to acknowledge me. When finally it was my turn (again), the woman threw my moneyorder at me. I would have like to tell her rude ass off for being so rude, but I kept my composure. You see, I read the reviews for this place after filling out the app and giving a deposit....believe me when i say that they are not favorable. They absolutely reflect previous reviews. Management is not professional by any means. The garbage is in the central lot and it is for nearly 400 units. It had a tacky "Garbage is here" sign tied to the fence. This is not anywhere near convenient for renters. Or the fact that you pay water, sewer, and garbage and they can not even tell you exactly how much. Should'nt this be a flat fee' It is every where else. I'm glad I took my money and ran. I found an awesome place the same day, much cheaper, utilities included, and the deposits were not inflated for god only knows why reasons

First, consider yourself lucky that you didn't get approved. This is experience was only a slight taste of what you would have been put through after you moved in. Even if you had paid the higher monies and took the apartment, you still would have gotten set aside for they don't care about anyone after they have leased an apartment. However, because of your aweful experience you are picking apart every little thing. Not every complex has a fixed rate for water/sewer, it is up to the owner/management company as to how they want the bill back service set up. By having a fixed rate, this creates more work for the office staff because once they recieve a big water bill they then have to collect the monies etc. By you being on your won meter and getting your own bill which naturally will fluctuate, it makes it easier on them. Which eventhough we would love for anything & everything to be MORE difficult for them... with a complex that size things would be even worse if they had to manager the billing for that. I try to stick the the places that pay the water/sewer. Plus, you said so yourself that bringing in your paystub was a huge inconveneience (eventhough you live close to the complex), but imagine how annoyed you would have been if they made you go get it at the time of applying! You may not have come back... so they took your app and I assume they attempted to contact the employer to verify employment and pay. 80% of employers do not release income information, so at that point they had to ask you to bring in a paystub. & who knows... it could have taken the 3 days before your employer returned their call to tell them that they cannot relase that info! Either way tho, I hope you are counting your blessings you didn't move in here!

Even though good points there is still the fact that they didn't contact soon enough, were rude, and a total fake! I lived there for almost 4 years until my situation was for them to evict me, kids and all, even though I barely made rent on there! That place needs new and better management, people who are going to be respectful and do their job, instead of eating twinkies and laughing behind people's back once you turn your back and head out the door! Trust me I know! Lived there long enough to know that they got no respect for other people's struggles, and just want to collect, collect, COLLECT! The lady that works at an apt complex near there is much MUCH nicer and more understanding! than they will ever be!!

Thanks for the responses. Although I do not feel as if I am picking at every little thing that was done during my app process. It was the major shift in professionalism that amazed me. I agree with paying for your own utility usage, but even some of the reviews report being out of state/country and still owed the same although utilities were unused and could not of possibly accummalated a bill...This worries me??? I'm glad that even though approved, the deposit came back higher and I was able to change my mind without charge (other than the app fee). It still makes me wonder how they could charge such an outrageous deposit for flawless credit. As for the paystub, I work, so yes it was a pain to drive over when they should have asked for it in first place(afterall they process apps daily). Sad thing is they never even called my employer or checked my references, not one of them. So to me they just jacked the deposit to get more money which should be illegal as far as I'm concerned. Either way your right, I am counting my blessings and found a great place. Good luck to those who live there for the future!!!!

I'm so glad I have been reading these comments. These guys contacted me after I signed up on some apartment websites etc..... Always a good idea to read the reviews. I find that sometimes when there's a few comments it's because usually people will only write reviews because they're angry at some company... but after about 5 you find some merit, and after 10 or more it's rediculus. Thanks guys!

Mission Hills is a joke!! The place is beautiful, but I have never seen a complex so complicate and bias as Mission Hills, And to add to the above comment. Orchard Pointe is very compassionate about your struggles. We could not pay our rent, they allowed us to skip a month and downgrade to a less expensive apt and pay that month in the middle of the month with no late fees. My daughter lives at Mission Hills and can't wait until her lease is up to move here.
