I lived in a one bedroom at Parklane for two years and left only because I was ready to buy a house. I could have stayed forever, especially now that so many new businesses (Walgreens, McDonalds, Applebee?s, WalMart, etc.) have opened so nearby. Being literally less than 3 minutes onto I-5 was INCREDIBLY CONVENIENT.
The rent was and still is a GREAT VALUE. In fact, I believe that the rent is the same now as it was then. The 700? size (1 BR) is more than you?d expect at that price, and I loved the closet space - a full wall of closets, double the space of a typical bedroom closet. There was also a closet by the dining room and another huge one in the bathroom.
The mailboxes and garbage were not very far at all, and I think that the complex is designed for that to be so.
Although there is not a washer/dryer in the unit, the way it is set up is almost as good as that because in each building of 8 apartments (4 bottom, 4 top), there is a washer & dryer. If you live downstairs like I did, you just walk a few feet, and you are there. If you live upstairs, you still have to carry your laundry downstairs, but that still beats putting it in the car and hauling it somewhere. Of course, you do need to have change for the machines (I remember it being very reasonable, less than some laundromats).
In the two years I lived there, I think I heard loud people about twice, and even that was brief. I guess this is always a luck thing because it has a lot to do with who happens to live by you. Still, I watched a few neighbors come and go over the two years, and they were all fairly quiet, even those above me.
The exercise room is really nice. The equipment was new and well maintained, and while there were people in there from time to time, the exercise room was never crowded. The same is true of the tennis court.
The surrounding is really peaceful with all of the trees. Again, this may have been specific to my location in the complex, but I loved that. The trees also helped to keep it much cooler in the summer.
The staff was always really friendly and helpful with any questions/maintenance issues, and they took care of things. There was some billing confusion (another tennant with the same last name who was apparently always late with his rent, yet I got his notices...), but eventually they got it straightened out and corrected my information.
Parking wasn?t usually too much of a problem. Occasionally I wasn?t able to park in one of the spots closest to my door, but there were always other spots not too far. I later rented a carport (since I hate scraping frost off the windsheild), and I remember that being very reasonable ($15 maybe').
I can?t really think of much else to say other than if you are looking for a great value with plenty of space in a convenient location and can live with a washer/dryer across the hall instead of in your unit, Parklane is definitely worth a look.

Hi Anonymous. I am a real person. I've also reviewed other apartments where I've lived on here. Please note that my review was written in 2003 and was based on living there from 1998 to 2000. I do not know what it is like now, other than that access to I-5 is probably still good, there are more businesses in the area, and I assume the washer/dryer situation is still the same. I've not checked current rent prices, so I don't know if it's still reasonable. I personally had no trouble with noise or drugs or crime or safety issues. That's just how it was. I stand by my review of the apartment as it was at the time I lived there, and I'm not posting anonymously.
