Archstone Waterford Place was a great place to live. I lived there around 2003-2004. When my wife and I returned to WA, we went back there and the manager recognized me -- it was like a family reunion. She remembered me as a great tenant and made it imposible for us to walk away without signing a lease.
Then new management came in and life became a nightmare. I had to go to the office 6 times to get a signed copy of my lease that I had signed in Aug. 2008. The sixth time, the new assistant manager was combative and rude. Even though she didn't know who I was, she insisted that what I was saying was fabricated.
We finally got a signed copy of our lease in March 2009 -- it was signed by Archstone in Nov. 2008 -- three months after we had signed it.
When my wife and I moved out, we left an impeccably clean apartment with NO damages. As per the lease, we requested to be present and WERE present during the final inspection. NO DAMAGES or wear and tear were noted during that inspection.
Nevertheless, Archstone Waterford Place billed us nearly 4 weeks later for $468 for line items like "Full paint", "Full clean" and "Carpet clean".
WA law stipulates that landlords MUST report and explain charges within 14 or forfeit any claims to the deposit.
When I called to contest the claims, the staffer I spoke to (Noah) could not substantiate the charges. He said the manager would call me back. It's been a week and they haven't called me back to substantiate the charges.
Their bill also threatened COLLECTION if we do not pay.
