Poor quality....

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2004

We have lived at Whitnall Pointe for 3 years and will be leaving at the end of this lease in April 2004. Our main reason for leaving is the increasing rent every year when there is no increase in the amenities or options available with the apartments and it?s now not reasonable price wise to continue to live there. We are saving over $150/month by moving only 4.5 miles away - right up Hwy.100 which will still make it convienent to restaurants, shopping, parks, bike trails, etc.

Besides the cost issue, there is the parking situation which is near to disasterous for as many apartments they have in the complex, they are badly in need of additional parking for visitors!!! We?ve had issues where if my roommate works a shift other than 1st shift, by the time he gets home (late at night), there were no parking spots in our assigned lot on a regular basis and parking during the winter is not allowed overnight on the street.

We also endured 3 winters at Whitnall Pointe - the first one being okay, but the sliding glass door to the patio was never fixed correctly and always brought a large cold draft into the apartment (heat is not included!). The second winter - we had a devil of a time getting them to fix our furnace correctly (visited us 10 times over 2 months, each time with a new part they thought they needed to replace). After all the fixing, we thought it would work, but didn?t and FINALLY they installed a new furnace into the apartment!!!!!! It was 3 months of very frigid temps in the apartment and lawyer friend said it would have been easy to get the rent back for those 3 months.

Minor issues that are discouraging: there are saunas in both the men?s and women?s changing areas (in the fitness center/by pool) and in the three years we?ve been there - they?ve worked maybe a total of 3 months of that time. The hottub is not kept "hot", but is similar to taking a warm bath. The office staff has a high turnover rate and you never get the same answer to the same question from any of them currently. We are having an issue with what a previous office staff member did and what it "supposedly" states in our record - all over a measly laundry card (which the system for those is ridiculous in the first place).

Laundry cards - vary from building to building - between 2 different types. Type 1 works for a few of the buildings, but you are only able to access the money machine from inside the rental office, which has the usual business hours and closes at 6pm during the week, so you really have to schedule when you can get money put on your card. Type 2 has a money machine outside and works for most of the buildings, but this machine is broken the majority of the time and it?s pure luck when you can get your money on the card to do laundry. The upside is that there is a nice laundry mat in the stores just a block down Hwy.100.

Some good points - the pool was very convienent in location for our specific building as we are the next building over from the office/pool area. This is true for about 1/5 of the entire complex. There is a second pool, but it was not open last summer.

It is very nice to be backed up to Whitnall Park and I used the access to the hiking trails quite often. But the increase in rent is not worth staying for those two reasons.

If you want an expensive, parking limited, roof over your head with questionable maintenance, go ahead and rent an apartment there. But if you want a good deal, go somewhere else.
