Not Bad

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I moved in during January of 2007. My roommate and I liked the space of the apartment and that heat was included in the rent. It was just by chance that we ended up at this place. The workout facility on-site was a huge bonus not to mention underground parking. Also the proximity to Whitnall Park provided a lot of fun like quick access for a hike or the random deer sighting on the apartment grounds.
I do have some complaints about this place though... They were slightly disorganized in their basement storage operations, not knowing what locker belonged to who. That was a bit alarming to me. It's also important to note that the place sometimes didn't feel all that safe to me. I would have preferred that the main entrance to each apartment building be locked AS WELL AS each individual apartment door. A buzzer or keycard system... anything. Instead it was entirely open so anyone could walk in at any time. The doors to each apartment were somewhat flimsy as were the doorknobs and locks, so I assumed a break-in somewhere in the complex was inevitable... just kept hoping it wouldn't be me. The parking lots and grounds were also lit poorly and large trees or shrubbery placed near pathways made it very enticing grounds for someone to lurk in the shadows and jump someone. I am not saying these things ever happened, I haven't checked, but it always was on the back of my mind when coming home late at night.
When I first moved in it seemed I was calling maintenance every week to come fix something which was in disrepair, but also to their credit I usually got a same or next day response and they fixed things the day they were there.
As for my neighbors' The couple across from us fought constantly (about money from what I could tell from their screaming and her crying) which pointed me to poor construction... I could hear their yelling pretty clearly through the walls. My downstairs neighbor would leave me threatening notes that I was too loud (I just lived alone with my cat for a few months once my roommate had gotten engaged and moved away) and this baffled me. Turns out just simple walking around was pretty loud in the apartment below me. This was discovered one night when she was banging on my door screaming she was going to call the police because I was so loud. I also could hear the birds my neighbors on the opposite end of the building kept sometimes... not good.
When I moved out, I was charged a lot of money for things to be fixed I didn't agree with like a broken counter top, miniblinds, and just outright charged for cabinets and floors being in dirty conditions. This fight did not end in our favor and we did not get our security deposit back -- which wasn't much and wasn't worth persuing to a greater extent.
I was happy to be offered underground parking at a cheaper rate when spots opened up. The surface lots had just barely enough spots for all the cars at each building. There was a man who parked his truck in a lot as storage essentially not to mention three of four handicapped spots which were never used. This irked me... The garage spot was nice.
If you're looking for a good place in a bind, I'd pick Whitnall Pointe. I would not live here long term. I thought I was paying a bit much for what I was getting in return and the fact that once my lease was up, rent was also going up, I chose to go elsewhere.
It's not a pit like some would say, it's just not perfect. If you're looking for a place that's quiet, I'd go elsewhere. AD2Hw9Wn8Umb3NN1w1jt
