Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009
I signed a lease to move in Brookpark in October but had a lease at my other place until November so I did not officially move in until November. I was able to slowly move into my apartment. A friend and I stayed there overnight and the toilet overflowed the first time it was used. I marked it on my check in sheet. After me and my boys moved in, there were chronic toilet problems. Several times the maintenance man was called and each time I was called back by the office telling me it was something I had done. They also told me that my kids, who are 11 and 12, stuck a toothbrush in the toilet, an Oral B to be exact. We use Colgate toothbrushes for one, for two, my kids are too old to do something like that, and lastly, we had problems from the beginning. So I dug up my check in sheet because they said I hadn't marked the toilet as a problem on that sheet as a problem in the beginning and sure enough, it was marked, so needless to say, they didn't argue that with me anymore.
Then, I have my fall inspection. They tell me a screen is missing from my bedroom and push the issue that my kids must have broken it and I"m "hiding" it. First off, if its gone, I realize I have to pay for it but have no reason to "hide" it. And honestly, it was NOT there when I moved in but isn't something I noticed immediately because well, who looks at that on the check in sheet. I've learned my lesson and realized that is something I would have to pay for when I moved out, but please don't accuse my children of breaking it when you have no idea what happened to it.
I do have to admit that maintenance was very quick to getting to any issues I had around the apartment but every time he came, if something was broken, it was always something that we did, even when after a week of living in the apartment, the baseboards in the kitchen kept coming off. I'm not sure how that was our fault.
I borrowed my boyfriends car for a month because he was working on my car when he had time and I got a letter from Brookpark saying that I only had a lease for 3 people to live in my apartment, so obviously someone was watching my apartment for whatever reason. Also, I got a call from the manager saying my kids were crawling in trees and that I needed to tell them to stop and they were identified by another tenant. Both my kids to be exact. I spoke with my one son because he had been outside with several neighborhood children and he said he was in the tree but someone told him to get out and he did, but my other son had been on the computer the ENTIRE day, so there was no way someone identified both my children.
I admit that I may not have been the perfect tenant and in fact, I allowed my cousin to stay at my apartment one night when I was out of town. I came home the next morning to a call from the manager about noise coming from the apartment the night before, yelling and swearing. I never denied the noise came from my apartment as I had not been there but all I could learn from that was to not be so generous when my reputation is at stake, or my shelter for that matter. Also, living with two boys and moving from a house to an apartment, I am sure we weren't the quietest tenants as the boys were used to being able to wrestle and be loud (as boys often do). It was hard to get them to adapt to apartment living and my one son in particular was having a few emotional problem when we first moved in due to the move. I was only told by the manager once that anyone said anything about the noise and in all reality, when you move into an apartment, you can't expect it to be as private and as quiet as a home. My neighbors often made noise but I just figured it was a part of apartment living. So I am sure the manager's response to this will be something about me being a loud tenant and that is entirely fine, as I've already addressed the issue above and if that was truly the case, I would have been notified more than once.
My bathroom sink leaked and when I called maintenance, the manager told me it was probably cuz they saw me filling water balloons. First off I filled them in the kitchen and second, why would that justify the sink leaking' Also, wow, am I being stalked'''''
Also, my dishwasher exploded and maintenance came over to fix it, it had leaked in the kitchen into the bathroom. When I moved out, I was charged for the water damage it caused. I'm not sure how it was my fault. I was also charged for the window that was mentioned above, which I figured I would be charged for, but when I went by the apartments a month after I moved out, the window was never replaced. I was shown a receipt for $50.00 for the window, so I hope the next tenant doesn't get screwed over. I did have to replace the bathroom flooring because my hair dye had spilled on it, I totally understand. The flooring that I charged for was extremely expensive but I still take responsibility for it either way. My apartment was extremely clean when I moved out, in fact, my mom cleaned it for me as she runs her own cleaning business, luckily, I was not charged for cleaning anything.
So all in all, if you want to constantly be covering your bases with everything and keep track of everything that goes on, live at Brookpark. Also, if you like to be stalked and have no privacy, live at Brookpark.
