Low quality construction ruins great location.

Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2001
I was one of the first tenants in this building in 2000.
Thumbs up:
1. Great location.
2. Good, if somewhat erudite, community.
3. Decent communal facilites, including a workout room, nice laundry facilities, and a common room with television, leather couches, and a pool table.
Thumbs down:
1. Poor quality construction. The wooden balconys (constructed of pressure-treated lumber) look like they were just slapped hap-hazzardly onto the brick fascade. 2. Interior finish carpentry is aweful due to cheap laminated particle board cabinets and cheap to non-existant internior trim.
3. Forced hot-air heating and air conditioning is provided on a unit-by-unit basis. HVAC system is loud and ducting is inadequate. Air Conditioning seems undersized as the unit is slow to cool when needed.
4. There is only one elevator per building, which is dreadfully inadequate for the number of units per building.
5. It is clear that this complex was built on the cheap and designed to generate a quick turnaround instead of a sustained, high-quality investment.
6. Not enough maintenence staff.
7. Ridiculously high rent prices for the area and for the quality of the facility.
