I discovered American Colony by accident while on my way to look at another complex. Sometimes accidents are good!

The complex is nestled between a busy road and a highway but you wouldn?t know it because of the natural sight and sound barriers of the surrounding landscape. In fact, sometimes the complex can be a little too well hidden (it took me several tries before I stopped overshooting the entrance!).

Apartments are available in two types. I lived in one of the hillside three-story buildings, in a middle floor flat. When you open the screen doors at both ends, you get a heck of a nice breeze through there. My father currently lives in a third floor flat that is actually only one floor up from the entrance.

The pool is pleasant and a nice place to meet the neighbors (it?s where I met and introduced Dad to his future second wife). There is also a clubhouse and a weight room for tenants' use.

One of the really nice things about the complex is the ready acceptance of pets. Far too many complexes forbid any pets not bound to cages or tanks. Not here. I can?t tell you how many cats live here but there are a wide variety of dogs, all pretty well behaved. There is a large dog walk area away from immediate sight to let dogs run and do their duties.

The staff are all dedicated and really friendly. Just ask and they?ll get it done right away. When Dad broke a leg, they had a second handrail installed before he came home!



How nice is American Colony' Out of 10 different complexes I?ve lived in, AC is my second favorite. And Dad' He?s enjoyed 18 years there.
