If you value your money and sanity, do yourself a favor and stay far away from these apartments. I've lived in apartment for the vast majority of my 30 years, and I've never encountered anywhere nearly as bad as Stationside Apartments.

First off, the town-homes are designed in the worst way possible. I bought a bedroom set and the hallway leading up to the second floor is so small and poorly designed that the dresser (which was smaller than average size) wouldn't fit through the passageway at the top of the stairs. I had to send the entire bedroom set back to the store. It was the same situation with a sofa I purchased. The delivery men couldn't squeeze it through the passageway and I had to send it back and pay nearly a thousand dollars more to buy a sectional sofa that separated into three parts so they could get it into the living room.

Secondly, the walls and windows have virtually no insulation whatsoever. During the winter, even with the heater running full-blast constantly, it was impossible to keep the place at a comfortable temperature. We had ice form on the inside of our windows constantly. My utility bills during the winter routinely soared above $200 per month.

Third, the people living in the apartments section of Stationside are as ghetto as they come. They are easily the loudest, trashiest, most obnoxious people I've ever had the misfortune to come across. (and I used to work in East St. Louis!!!) They were constantly yelling, playing their terrible music at insane levels, letting their misbehaved kids run wild all over the place, and try to intimidate passers-by. The incessant noise from the bass in their car stereos was a huge problem as well as they had no consideration whatsoever when they would play it and at what volume. I had to call the police several times because their music was so loud it was shaking the entire town-home in the middle of the night.

Fourth, just in case the noise from the ghetto trash across the street wasn't bad enough, the noise from the train station and the Police station next door were horrible. At the end of every shift, the Police Cars would run their sirens as they entered back into the station and it is LOUD. The windows are so bad, and the station is so close that it is easily loud enough to wake someone up from a dead sleep and it happens all day and all night.

Fifth, the units are infested with disgusting silverfish insects. They are literally eating the walls from the inside-out and are everywhere! Not a day went by where I didn't find at least a half-dozen of the vermin in the house somewhere.

To top it all off, when I finally couldn't stand any more and found a better place to live, they tried to charge me a bunch of ridiculous fees and withheld my security deposit.

These are easily the worst apartments in the world. Anyone would be a world-class fool to move into them. The only reason I got suckered into it was because I got transferred to this city through my work and I had no idea which places were good and which were bad. That is why I'm writing this review. Don't get screwed like I did! Stay far, far away from that trash-hole!

Seems to me that you broke your lease, and to get your apartment available to re-rent they needed to possibly prepare the apartment with freshly painted walls, clean carpet etc. Maybe they shouldn't of gotten it ready for re-rent and charged you the full lease pay out. Just a thought!!

I left only two months prior to when my lease was set to expire, and I even paid them for 3/4 of a month when I wasn't living there. Since they stole my security deposit and charged me a bunch of bogus fees it would have been the same price to just pay the rent for the last two months. Of course, that assumes that I'm going to pay their insane fees which I won't. It was worth it all though to get out of that ghetto hell-hole. Now I can actually sleep at night without having crappy rap music shaking the house and I can send my girlfriend out to get the mail without having to worry about a bunch of knuckle-draggers threatening her.

IF they have charged you for anything, you have the right to request a copy of the invoices to back up those charges...cleaning carpet, painting, broken fridge door handle, etc. Whatever you are charged for, you need to ask them for receipt of actual repair being done. My daughter rented elsewhere in WI and they gave her the apt. with a big red wine stain on the white tile kitchen floor. Turns out she met the previous resident somewhere, and she was teasing him about the red stains -- he had been charged $1400 to replace that stained floor and they'd never replaced it!! He took the management company to court and they had to pay him back his money!! If you don't agree with any charges, don't sign the move-out! Anyone leaving an apartment should insist the manager walk it with you, after you are all out, and agree to the damages and/or charges in writing before you sign off and give them the keys. Also, I was asked on 8/3/09, to consider taking this property as the new manager -- and I don't want a property with the kinds of problems you describe (loud music, ghetto attitude of residents, trains and sirens), so you've helped me decide to decline the offer. thanks!
