beware the slumlord

i lived in the home apartments for a year. i moved in with a mess to clean up. they didn't clean up after fixing the apartment from the last tenants, and the blinds didn't even work. there were large nail and screw holes that hadn't been filled in and there was orange or rust discoloring on the walls and ceiling (maybe from water damage') if you want something fixed they don't fix it. i called numerous times about the fan in the bathroom leaking from water collecting on the roof. i don't know how many times i came home from work with a flooded apartment. needless to say it never got fixed. and the time they did fix something they fixed it wrong and made the problem worse...and left my fan/light on in the bathroom while i was gone on vacation for a week. security deposit, yup they took the entire $475. all for painting and "excessive" cat odor. my cat had two cat boxes and he used them well. the apartment was NOT furnished with carpet; it had all hardwood floors. i emptied the apartment a month before i moved out and deep cleaned it once a week...just in case, but they still took my whole deposit.
i would like to say that the experience was terrible. there were cockroaches in the basement (where the laundry room is located) and the entire building was mice infested. (that's why i initially got the cat) but if you like wasting your money on a dump, and like to have your stove shoot sparks at you while you are making breakfast, be my guest. also...a little tidbit of fact. we had a fire in our building december 24, 2008 at 2am. the fire was supposedly caused by a man's electric wheelchair plugged into the wall. also, the lady that showed me the apartment told me that one of her other buildings had burned down. i don't think they are up to code. i am probably sounding heartless, but i was paying a small fortune to live in a one bedroom apartment the size of a refrigerator box, with loads of pre-existing damages and a slumlord for a landlord. i'm not happy with my experience at the home apartments and something should be done about it...especially since there is already a lot of complaints on this website...
