On its way downhill...

When I moved to Abbey Hill from Mistwood (see review) in 2003, it seemed like paradise compared with Mistwood. That didn't last for more than 6 months. Gradually things started going downhill to the point where the parking lot was backed up most of the night with drug customers waiting in line to make their purchase. Lee & Ellie took over shortly after I moved in. They said they checked references of renters because they complex next door was being turned into a ghetto & they wanted to avoid that. Still, they evicted someone upstairs from me after I notified them that there was heavy drug activity going on there & they allegedly found drugs stashed in the toilet tank. That explained why I found one of their customers peeing on the dumpster outside. Makes you wonder about the thoroughness of their background check. They tried to address the parking lot & grounds safety issues by putting in massive floodlights which were blinding enough that you wouldn't have been able to see who was standing between you and the light, just their outline. One night I woke up to the sound of someone throwing up outside & looked out my window to see the maintenance manager leaned up against a tree hurling his liquid supper. The couple above me was quiet most of the time, but occasionally the male would get drunk or drugged out and I could hear him throwing her across the floor & her crying & screaming for mercy in Spanish. Not wanting to be a party to a domestic homicide, I called police, who didn't appear to have a Spanish speaking officer available to deal with the situation. For some reason there was a gym-type punching bag mounted to the rafters in the basement directly under my apt. Kids who didn't live there would come in & swing on it making an interesting sound that only went away when I beat the floor with a hammer. I lived there at the time of the controversial fire in the managers' apt. They told me that it was bad computer wiring. I have no proof otherwise. When they put that big deck on their apt I did wonder if that was appropriate where everyone else who lives there has to get by with the little concrete slab decks. It did seem at the time like they were trying to keep things decent & fighting uphill, but judging by the other reviews they either were not successful or were telling me what I wanted to hear.
