No longer accepting Dogs
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 3/31/2008
Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2008
For many people who chose to live at Heather Valley Apartments the main attraction was that they allow not only one dog, but two. It is very difficult to find an apartment in madison that will take two good-sized dogs. Sadly this is not the case anymore. As of April 11, 2008 Heather Valley will no longer be accepting dogs. I believe that people already living here with dogs will be allowed to keep their dogs and continue to live here. The management also changed the name to High Point Woods, which is the name of the property accross the street and is owned by the same people.
From a management prospective I can't blame them for making that decision. If you took a walk around the grounds of the apartment community, you would surely step in at least one pile of dog poop. Some people who do not pick up after their dogs have ruined a good thing for everyone.
It is very difficult to rate this property because it contains two completely different types of apartments. Some years ago Heather Valley purchased the neighboring property called Pine Meadows at High Point. The Pine Meadows apartments have different layouts, different windows and designs, and in my opinion are more like condos. They have a washer/dryer in each unit and many have two full baths, whereas the other apartments have one washer/dryer for the building but are nicer in some other ways.
Parking is difficult in some areas and good in others. Overall, I would recommend this property to a friend as long as they knew about the mold problem. Many of the apartments grow mold around the windows and in some cases other areas on walls and in corners of celings. This mold can become excessive and gross if not taken care of often. It needs to be cleaned off with a small brush and a bleach/water solution. It's disgusting, but i put up with it because other than that I like living here.
Very sad though, that they won't be taking dogs anymore. It's so fun to meet other dog owners and dogs when we go on walks. Lots of people here have dogs and I am worried about what will happen to them in the future.
