There are a lot of factors that go into a good home. High Point Woods has very few of them, though there are certainly worse places to live. It's located in an ideal location, near shopping, dining, and entertainment; though it's secluded enough that it doesn't feel like it's a block away from a Wal-Mart (it is). It's a very nice wooded lot with winding driveways and fairly respectable landscaping. The pool gets significant use during the summer. This is where the good part ends.
There is not nearly enough parking, and residents park in fire lanes and handicapped spots on a nightly basis. If someone's got guests staying with them, you may have to park the equivalent of 2 blocks away.
The walls of each apartment are paper thin, and while the management talks up the fact that each apartment only shares one wall with one neighbor, the ceilings and floors are the real problem. If an upstairs neighbor is taking a shower or doing laundry, you hear every drop of water. If they're feeling frisky, you hear every moan. If they walk to the refrigerator at 3am, you hear every footstep and floor creak.
The managers are generally polite and well-meaning, but they can only do so much as tell their maintainance person(s) to fix whatever problems arise (and trust me, problems will arise). Upon move-in, the apartment was dirty, smelly, and generally unkept. This would have been understandable if the previous tenant had moved out the day before, however, the apartment had been sitting vacant for a month. There was no excuse for not sweeping the floors, cleaning the tubs or wiping down the counters. Even the paint job was terrible -- there are drips everywhere, and in many places there are hairs painted into the wall. They failed to paint in many of the corners and inside the closets.
Overall, I have to say that it's not all bad -- I love the location. Beyond that, High Point Woods isn't worth the price tag. If they knocked $200 off of the rent, it might make it worth the expense. Otherwise, try a few of the complexes up or down the road. They seem to be much better deals, in hindsight.
