Par for the course in Madison

Pros: reasonable rent compared to other high-rises nearby.

Good location- right by Gilman and State Street.

Our apartment stayed fairly quiet despite parties going on elsewhere on our floor and above us.

Couches that came with the apartment were gorgeous- most comfortable couches I've ever slept on.

But ours were new; most in the building aren't.

AC works well.

Laundry on every floor (but you have to buy a $5 card to use the machines).

Cons: Where to start' First, the windows leak like crazy.

Since we pay for heat, this sucked, as it got so cold near our windows that we couldn't use one bedroom (despite the fact that the hallway next to it with the thermostat was at 72 degrees, we had to wear gloves and coats or we went numb doing our homework).

The microwave and stove in our apartment are ancient, despite the fact that the building is relatively new.

When we moved in, our apartment was dirty and the walls were full of holes- I hope we don't get charged for any of it.

Repair guys leave messes which you're expected to clean up.

Frequent fire alarms; I'd say during the school year we had one a weekend, and usually the elevators were broken by Sunday morning also.

Also, landlord is only in her office 4 hours a day in the afternoons, so good luck picking up packages if you work 9-5 or are in class during the afternoons.

Parking is expensive, but its the same as the other nearby buildings.

Also, hall walls were frequently punched/kicked through, and drywall holes weren't repaired for weeks- looked like we lived in a horror movie.

Don't walk in the back alley at night, although the police now frequent it during the warmer months so it's safer than before (muggings).

Homeless people frequently sleep in lobby and/or study room.

Only a small circle (no parking! fire lane) so move-in/move-out is a -----.

MAYBE four cars can be in that thing at a time.

Maybe.
