Good for the money, can't really complain and great management

I've been here for almost 2 years and I can't really complain. The big pluses are that heat and water are included and you get your own assigned parking spot. I've only found someone else in my spot once before. A new tenant was confused about which spot was assigned to them. The area is relatively safe, though, just across University Ave (north) from the building is not very safe, but I've never had anything stolen or vandalized and I am not worried about walking around at night. The 70, 71, 72, 74 buses stop right across University Ave on weekdays and the 68 and the 8 (and the 70 on Saturday) come on weekends. It's a 25 minute bike ride to campus almost entirely on bike paths/lanes. Biking to the grocery stores or the farmers market at the DOT parking lot is very easy. Residents keep to themselves. Most people don't take your stuff out of the dryer unless you leave it in there for about 3 hours. There are only 3 washers and 3 dryers so sometimes you have to plan to do your laundry at an odd time, but they only cost 75 cents each which is cheaper than most places. You can control your heat in your apartment and the heat works really well. The windows aren't very drafty and the curtains are very heavy. I usually don't feel cold in the apartment in the winter. The beach down the road is very pleasant and usually empty. The hot water always works.

The landlords are great. They are very responsive to phone calls. Maintenance issues are always resolved promptly and they hire trustworthy people to fix things that they can't fix themselves. For example, I had a little water leaking in from a gap in the siding after about a week of rain. They fixed the gap and stripped, spackled and repainted the water damage in the apartment (with no charge) within a week and the people who did the work in the apartment didn't leave a mess. One time my garbage disposal wasn't working and they fixed it in one day. The hallways are cleaned all the time and I always see the manager around doing something whether its vacuuming or mowing or shoveling snow around the dumpsters or throwing salt around so you don't slip on ice in the winter. One time, I put my stuff in a washer, but it was broken and it didn't drain the water or spin, so my clothes were all wet. I wrote a note about it, and they put in a new washer within a week. I can't say enough good stuff about the responsiveness of the management.

I do hear my upstairs neighbor stomping around sometimes, and if this person is talking really loudly, I can hear it, so try to get the third floor if you don't like to hear people stomping around. During one month, the person was stomping around at all times of the night and it really kept me up all night, so I told the landlords about it. They talked to the resident and it hasn't been a problem since.

The biggest problem with the place is bugs. Lots of cedar beetles come in as winter approaches. They aren't harmful, but it's pretty gross to see them dead all over the place. Again, that's not the managers' fault, the bugs just come in to get out of the cold. I have seen roaches in the basement and recently I saw them in the hallway. They aren't the huge really scary ones, they are the little ones about the size of a dime or smaller, but still, I know bugs and I know a roach when I see one. I have seen the Terminex truck here a few times in the past few months, so I think they are taking care of it, but if it gets worse, I'm going to move out.

This past winter there was a LOT of snow. Every time it snowed at night, the little Caterpillar snow-plow would come between 4 and 5am. This is good if you have to drive to work and leave very early in the morning, but it's not very pleasant to be woken-up by the roar of the engine and the sound of metal scraping pavement. There's nothing you can really do about this other than wear ear plugs if it's snowing.
