My family & I lived in a Ridgewood apartment for about 7 years. When we first moved in, it was an okay place to live & rent was inexpensive. Every year it got worse & worse, though. Several people have mentioned the poor maintenance - we had several experiences with it. From small things like fixing the heat (which was perpetually at 80 deg even when turned off in the middle of winter) and screen door (which was always breaking when opening it like normal) to having a pipe break under the building & it taking a couple weeks for it to be fixed. Then, when it was fixed, they refused to replace the carpet that had gotten soaked in our apartment - they would only replace the padding that had gotten wet. We had a huge hole in the hallway outside our door for a couple weeks & when they were finished, they just left the piles of cement, dirt, metal rods, etc from the floor sitting in a pile in the back of the building, just outside our patio. Not a safe thing, especially with small children.

We had our storage unit broken into no less than 3 times - this was in a locked room where only the current tenants of the building were suppose to have keys (I have a feeling that all the storage units use the same key).

When we were finally able to move out, we had just resigned our lease (we were able to buy a house & hadn't found one yet when we needed to resign or tell them we were leaving) - and even though the new lease term had not started yet, we were forced to pay 3 months rent to get out of it.

The management/staff are rude, the crime rate is high, the grounds are in terrible condition - garbage all over (including in the hallways, which were rarely cleaned), bugs, poor outdoor lighting (many lamps were broken or without a lightbulb). I could go on & on. Please, if you are considering renting in this place - do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. There are plenty of reasonable priced apartments that are kept up much better than this slum.
