Wouldn't recommend

I've lived at Cedar Crest for a year and I will not renew my lease this year. I really enjoy living in Middleton and the location of Cedar Crest is wonderful because it is close to the ponds and parks and shopping, but there are a few things to think about when looking to live at Cedar Crest.

They've done a lot to make an old complex look attractive, but they aren't by any means new. In my opinion, they are trying to rent this place out for way more than it's worth. It is not a horrible place to live, but if you are expecting what your paying for, you might be disappointed. Worst of all, my experience with the management company when I initally rented and when my lease was due to be signed for another year, was that the management company yanks you around and trys to manipulate you with car salesman-like tactics.

Here are a few of the problems I had while living there:

First, I had a summer long infestation of ants as well as a mouse in my house in the fall. The management's remedy was something like: If you can't catch it with a trap, call us back and we will call someone.

The kitchen cupboards smell old and make everything in them smell old. The bathroom cupboards had been replaced, but keep falling off their hinges just because I think they are cheap.

The new trim around the floor became unglued, so I just glued it back to the wall.

The heating system rattles very often and It's quite loud.

The cost to use the laundry facility is a dollar each to wash and to dry but the equipment is so old that it took at least $3 to dry my clothes. Luckily there is a laundramat about a mile down the road.

I also have something to add about the safety of the area. I'm not sure why, but I had a couple encounters with what I think were druggies trying to hitch a ride. One person actually came right up to my patio door while I was watching TV and told me she was a UW Law student and she needed a ride to her grandmas on Allied Dr.

Over all, it *looks* like a safe and average place to live, which is why I chose to live there. I love my apartment but it is not worth $669/mo(which is what they were offering on my new lease) and I'm certainly not happy with the way the management company handles things. I know they can do a lot better.
