Great big lofts right in the middle of downtown

When I moved into the Chalet I intended for it to be temporary, but I have liked it so much that I've been here for 6 years now. The lofts are big and open with 12 foot ceilings and very nice unobsructed views of the city. It's an older building and the units are somewhat plain and simple, but they are the perfect blank slate to be turned into whatever kind of space you like. Comparing my unit with various neighbor's units has always been interesting as each space tends to end up uniquely reflecting the style and taste of its occupant. I just like that I can fit a pool table in my living room, have a couple of large fishtanks, and still have enough space left over to do gymnastics if I ever decide to take it up. I also like that the floors & ceilings are made of thick poured concrete and provide excellent isolation from the sound of your neighbors. I have always hated little tiny apartments with paper thin walls and creaky floors and the Chalet is the exact opposite. The water pressure in the shower is also fabulous. My kitchen is older, as my unit is not one of the ones that has recently been updated, but I was given the option of having a new kitchen installed and chose not to since I would rarely use it.
Management has been great and I have always gotten along with Bonnie very well. Everyone from Frank (maintenence) to Dennis and Larry (parking) have been helpful over the years. I surmise that some of the negative comments I have read in a few other reviews here have more to do with people who were not paying their rent or may have been problem tenants. There are a number of great people who have lived here for many years that also seem to get along well with the management.
The tenants here are an eclectic mix that range from young to old. The common thread among people who like it here seems to be a desire to live in the heart of downtown in a large open loft at a very reasonable price.

This is a very unrealistic review! In comparison with the other reviews here, and what I've heard offline, the Chalet on the River is a money-grubbing nightmare operation that no one should wish on their worst enemy. I recently assisted a resident move out - and everything I read here was true. The manager "Bonnie" called hourly to ask "are you out yet?" and swore like a truck stop hooker, the elevator was constantly broken for the 3 days we were trying to move, we kept finding people from the mgmt company in the unit before we had moved out (without notice) "inspecting" a still-occupied apartment and throwing out threats about being charged for things that weren't legit. It was terrible. DO NOT move here. It's absolutely scary to see after sundown. The rooms at the Salvation Army are probably cleaner than the common areas of this property.

This is obviously written by either the owner or someone that works at this building. I think this is the speach they give when telling you about the apartments here. I am currently living here and though I have not experienced some of the horrors others have I can see them happening. It's not horrible but in no way ideal either
